It's good to know that you acknowledged the need for change and acted upon it. I experienced similar problems in my younger days, not from wanting to please people or wanting them to like me. I was quite the opposite there. However, I was quick to lend money even if I knew that I would never get it back. That was because I cared to help people, and just like you, would Years later I discovered things those fake friends did behind my back. So life thought me to not be a compassionate fool, and I'm now selective with who I extend any part of myself to.

I hope that you'll continue to grow to be strong and independent do that you can take care of yourself when the reality hits you that no one really has your best interest at heart but yourself:)
