There is always more within us than we often realize - a reservoir of potential, peace, meaning, and purpose waiting to be unleashed. For me, exploring that "more" has come in the form of intentional connection with others, even as someone who enjoys and values her solitude. Some months ago, I found myself taking small steps to connect and engage with the world around me and each step brought a refreshing clarity to my life.
One of these steps was offering lessons to kids in my neighbourhood. It only started as a simple idea - a way to share my knowledge and skills with young children around me, not excluding how I gather them every night to tell them stories, mostly about the smart but cunning animal, tortoise and good morals. Little did I know how much it would enrich my days.
Their curiosity to learn and eagerness to listen to different stories reminded me of the joy in sharing and the vigour that comes from being part of a community. It wasn't about finding ways to use up my time but about creating meaningful moments that brought light into my life.
Another moment of connection came when I volunteered to help at an event a few days ago. For someone who enjoys staying indoors, stepping out felt like a deliberate act of exploration - not just of the world but of myself. As I assisted at the event, interacting with new faces and being part of something beyond my capacity, it left me feeling fulfilled and grounded. Though I was drained by the end of the day, I felt so good and excited afterwards.
With these experiences, I do not see myself abandoning my solitude which I cherish, but striking a balance with moments of intentional connection. Although solitude allows me to reflect and recharge, I still feel that there are days when being part of something bigger calls to me.
Through these small acts of service, I have found stillness and the ability to think clearly and rationally - proof that we often discover more about ourselves when we open up to others.
Exploring the "more" inside is not always about meditation or sitting in tranquillity. Sometimes, it is found in actions like stepping out, helping and supporting each other or simply being present when they need you. These moments of connection do not ruin the value of solitude, they heighten it, presenting a fuller, richer perspective of life.
What stands out most is how these moments feel intentional and not forced. They are not about filling a void or seeking validation but about finding joy in the little ways I can contribute and connect. While I treasure my quiet moments, I've learned that occasionally stepping out into the world adds meaning and richness to my life.
So, what about you? How do you explore the "more" inside you? Whether through connection, meditation, creativity or quiet reflection, I hope you find ways to uncover that greatness that lies inside. It's a journey worth taking and the rewards are both fulfilling and transformative.
