Inexpert Skincare

Skincare has never been an interesting activity for me, and I guess most men can relate. Most of us deem it unnecessary, and it may be true for our younger versions, but as we get older, it becomes fairly necessary. Yet, the priority should be what you put inside your body, instead of what you apply outside of your body. Diet comes first, then comes exercise, and after that comes skincare, supplements, and meds.

Now, even though my diet and current routine of activities isn't the best, it's still better than most out there. Because I've begun to take care of myself in the past year or so. Since I'm now pushing 30, I believe it's necessary. Just about 4 to 5 years ago or more, skincare was nonexistent, the same for my hair. Now, I do wish that I had taken better care of myself.

Another key person who tells me to take care of my skin is my wife. I'll be honest, if she wasn't pushing me as hard, I wouldn't put in half the effort I put in now. Before I used whatever I got my hands on, cheap, expensive, and even expired; I'm not even kidding haha. However, after getting married, I've been "feeling myself" a lot.

Yes, I do agree if I had taken care of myself, I would've looked and maybe felt a little better, but yeah, there's a time and place for everything.

Since I've just started this journey of skincare and wellness, I'm going fairly cheap. From the skin gel to face wash, to shower gel and shampoo displayed above, the total cost me less than $30. And that $30 will serve me for the next 8 months minimum. Easily! So, that's only 3 to 4 dollars a month. Which is amazing I'd say.

Slowly I'm experimenting and trying to pinpoint the products that suit me and my skin type. However, the options we have here are limited; especially for men. Women's cosmetics and skin care are readily available though, whether you want the cheap option or the expensive one; even in a country like ours, you'll find most of it here.

If I consider my wife's monthly spending on cosmetics and skincare, it will be 5 times more than mine. However, for her, these are the bare minimum. Because if she doesn't use a specific sort of cream or cleaner, then her skin doesn't react well. Yet, she never goes overboard. She keeps her list of skincare products to a minimum, and the same goes for her style and make-up. She is a true minimalist, and that's not just for skin care, but for style too.

All in all, I keep it simple. We all should when it comes to such products. These aren't necessities, they only enhance our experience and results. The true priority should be health and wellness; starting with diet and exercise. And that's my next goal, to focus more on eating healthy and a solid workout routine. So, I'll have to allocate more time to self-care, and at this point, it is very much necessary for me. Do not neglect health and wellness.

And...

KEEP IT SIMPLE!

Cheers. 🥃

I'm sure behind every handsome guy is a woman pushing him to look good. Your Madam did well.

Oh, that's for sure. No doubt there.

Yes, health and wellness deserves adequate attention from us, including skin care. Most men won't agree about skincare like you said but they start to accept the fact as they get older. And keeping it simple is an effective way of going about it. Thanks for writing and happy Sunday.

The earlier we start, the better. Sadly, we mostly learn when it's too late to make amends...

Kudos to your Mrs for always pushing you forward 💪🏾🤎

Yeah, she's a true motivator. One of the very few supporters I have.
