Happy New Year to all Hiveians! It is my first write up in the Minimalist Community and I am glad to be here.
In response to the prompt: KISS # Week 142 , I will be sharing my thoughts on my watch word for the year which is FACE FRONT.
As simple as it seems, Face Front really got me past and out of a lot of troubles in 2024 and it was so relevant that I have nothing on top of my list than these two beautiful words, I think I’ll make a frame.
In case you think this is one of those posts about to recount oppressive achievements, I am sorry to bust your bubbles, it’s reflective. Not that it’s bad to list your blessings but I’ll rather identify with my lessons.
I wear a coat of many colours because I am responsible to many and in these areas of responsibility one of the basic challenges which I believe is common to everyone on the planet, is distraction. My to dos are well-defined but achieving them is another thing entirely.
For example, there were days I was assigned task at work and it was at the same moment that someone feels they want to share some special stories and personal challenges with me. It is good to be empathetic but not at the expense of one’s job.
I don’t know why but quite a number of people felt they could confide in me last year, which I was happy about.
I don’t know what I was doing to attract that trust but I am glad I had that experience. However, it became a challenge when people’s needs started contending with my responsibilities.
At this point I had the dilemma of choosing between attending to someone who probably needs my listening ears so badly and getting scolded for missing timelines. At this delicate point early last year, I had to make a decision.
“Face Front” was all that came to my head. After having some introspective moments, I began to analyse the meaning and relevance of these two words.
It is not every crying baby that needs one’s attention, some may be crying to bed and asides the figurative interpretation I have actually seen babies that cried because they were about to sleep!
Not everyone deserves my attention, some are just distractions. Facing front will keep me focused on what matters and when all that is sorted, if there is some spare time, then those people will be attended to.
After applying this method, I discovered that most of those I think I don’t want to offend adjusted to my new method and only come to me when they see that I am less busy.
I was also able to shelve all the unnecessary distracting and time-consuming chit chats, I was surprised at the results I got. I am a very busy person but I discover I could make more time for being productive and reduce the distractions by facing front!
On a flip, I personally don’t go about sharing all my problems with my friends, I only share what is important and necessary. Even when I had some challenges, I weigh them and see if I should shelve them or revisit later.
So many problems I could have gotten entangled but facing front excluded me at work and even beyond. This minimized my problems in a way.
Being so engrossed in one’s business is not such a bad thing after all. I had more time to write on hive and I hope I will keep up the pace and have a better year.
Talking about hive, there was this evaluation concept I saw and I liked it by @hivecreators on #hiverecap. For more details, you can check out here: HIVE RECAP 2024
Wishing you a blessed 2025 as you Face Front and face your business squarely!
