A deep feeling with untold commitment...
A connection with long term friends does not need any request, you say something and they feel what needs to be done, and go to an extent, that sometimes, is beyond expectation. Having such good friends is a privilege, and I think, minimalists will definitely have such friends, because for us, its a commitment that we honor till we are alive.
Yesterday was one such day, where I met my old friends after a very long time. Our friendship began 25 years back, when I started my career in educational field , as both of us served in the same college. I was in a teaching role and he was in administrative role, but we quickly recognized the empathy of each other and became very close friends. Later I changed my career path and moved to other city, but we made sure to attend important family functions, meeting once in a while.
Yesterday the kid had JEE Mains exam scheduled at the college where he is working, and when I told him, he made sure to provide all the information that the kid wanted. Usually he communicates every day from his home which is very far, and reaches by 10 am. The reporting at the center was very early, for which we left house at 7 am. I was expecting to meet my friends after the kid goes inside.
After taking the blessings of the Lord, we traveled 30 kilometer to the center .
You can see dense fog preventing us to drive fast, but we managed to reach there by 7.45 am.
From this point, only candidates are allowed, and when the kid went inside, they saw problem in his admit card - his name and surname were joined, and it did not match with his Aadhar card ( Govt. identity card). They wanted a clean admit card and the kid came back panicked, asking for help and just then I received the call from my friend - he did not go home and stayed anticipating, if any help would required. That's the power of connection - they will be around you, when you need them most. We downloaded the admit card on mobile to confirm, but it was none of our fault - the issue was in their site, compressing the content, while downloading. And even there was no way, I could try to print his admit card as no place was open nearby. I was not allowed to go inside, but as a staff, he could go inside, so he accompanied the kid taking inside and explaining everything to the exam authorities, after which they allowed the kid. He was so happy to have someone with him and helping out - this was his first major competitive exam, you can imagine the anxiety level.
Later, one more close friend of nineties, who also works here joined us and we spent a nice time while the kid was writing his paper.
Roaming around the huge campus to having tea and snacks couple of times, they did not let me feel alone - that's the power of connection - I did not tell them anything, but it's a untold commitment with deep feelings that will stay forever inside, till we are alive. Even though we meet once in few years, these deep feelings ensure, we are around, when someone needs. If you are a minimalist, I am sure, you will feel it from these photos.
