When I started using a mobile phone a few years ago, I battled with having to source for wallpapers. For someone that doesn’t like attending occasions, especially gatherings with a lot of people, I found so much peace in solitude, so it was really difficult to have people recommend apps or sites to get some amazing wallpapers for me.
When I gained admission into the university, I had a lot of people around me who would request my visit, but gracefully I would decline for one important hobby that I had; visiting nature for a talk, and a shot of beauty that would be used as my wallpapers.
Most of the time, I like to get into my head than I liked to talk to people, but I found peace talking to nature and taking a piece of it with me.
A lot of people found me weird because I would always commend anything with a touch of nature. Words like ‘cute’, ‘beautiful’ and all qualifying adjectives were mine to use with anything associated with nature. But I didn’t mind the many names I was called because I chose to do what gave me peace, and cost me nothing, not even much time.
I would leave home at some exact hours daily to visit nature where I could have in-depth conversations like asking the sky why it was so beautiful on a particular day, or the trees, why the flowers on it are so beautiful, or even the orange sun in the evening when it appeared so colourful and peaceful.
Visiting people for some good time where I would have to spend the money that I didn’t have, and we wouldn’t have brain-stimulating conversations was not my thing as a minimalist, so I preferred spending my time with nature.
When I didn’t have a phone with a good camera, I would borrow my housemate’s own to take pictures, run it through some editing apps and turn it into amazing wallpaper-worthy pictures for my phone, even though the edits weren’t perfect, I enjoyed doing them still.
For a long time, and up till now, my phone has a lot of nature pictures, including dried trees, leafy lands, flowered-trees, blue sky, cloudy sky, flowers-decorated roadside, birds, water, butterflies, and even grasshoppers. Taking pictures of these items is a hobby I don’t think I can get over for a very long time. At some point, I got some mobile-photography tools that would help me take micro shots.
It was weird because it separated me from a lot of people that would prefer that we went out on dates to beautiful places, spend money, talk and talk until dawn, then return home. I however, find peace just sitting with nature, and most importantly, taking shots and editing them.
Eventually, the people that criticized me for being a lone-wolf, commending nature, and taking pictures like a crazy person requested some of those pictures to be used as their phone’s wallpaper when I uploaded them on my WhatsApp status update.
Maybe I should’ve billed them, but I didn’t.
All images are mine.
