The Physical Affects The Mental

What would you say to your best friend to convince them that minimalism could improve their life and overall well-being?

When I saw this question I thought about my close friends and for the first time, realized how they're all minimalists. Even the one who seems extravagant to others is one of the most mindful people I know who makes sure they get value in whatever they own. It seems I am attracted to minimalists like myself after all.

I know when people hear minimalism they immediately think 'simple' but I learnt one can look and seem extra and still live a minimalist lifestyle. My friend for example is not necessarily a 'simple' presenting person. One would think they own a lot but I have experienced first-hand how this person deals with clutter, they absolutely hate it and take out time to declutter when needed.

By observing and being around this person, I've been convinced how minimalism can improve one's daily life and how to maintain your personality while at it. Minimalism doesn't have to make you a plain Jane or turn your life into a neutral palette, if you have a loud personality, you still can shine and make the best out of everything you own.

From this friend, I have learned to easily detach from items I love but never use. Decluttering is easy when you feel you've got your money's worth off the items or when they're not your taste anymore but it's a whole other level when you love an item but never use it.

The satisfaction I have derived from practising this is unmatched. Not only will the new owners get value from using the items, but I would also appreciate my other items more.

My friend is easygoing and strives daily to live a stress-free life which is one of the most admirable qualities about them. In taking care of their physical surrounding and belongings, they also take care of their mind and not dwell on clutter.

If I had to convince another friend about minimalism, I'd tell them to focus on only the items that make them happy for a while and observe how their mood changes for the better. I'm sure they'd feel lightweight and relieved if they apply this.

How has minimalism enabled you to have mental and physical freedom?

Minimalism has brought even more contentment and appreciation to my life. In my world, it is a 'me Vs me' situation because I only compare myself to my past and not with other people. I see things as just things and not the source of my happiness. I easily detach when I need to and this extends to things like hurt, contempt and overthinking.

My personal space and surrounding is more free and organized, and so are my thoughts. It's not a day's work, but it's a journey and for the most part, my mind is in the right place and free from clutter.

To compare our past self and not with others says a lot about minimalism, it will really make one to live a minimalist lifestyle, but to compare ourselves with others is not good, it would shape us outside minimalism and thus is not good because by the time we can not manage that lifestyle anymore, it would become a problem that is why we must maintain minimalist lifestyle.

When our mental health has a problem, it would also affect our physical health. We need to take care of our health and I firmly believe that minimalism is key. Have a nice time my friend and let us be more of a minimalist.

Hey there!

minimalism can improve one's daily life and how to maintain your personality while at it.

Minimalism doesn't have to make you a plain Jane or turn your life into a neutral palette,

You are lucky to have mainly minimalist friends.
All your points are excellent, especially those that I've quoted. I think maintaining personality is important in everything in life and minimalism is no exception.
