"The Centaur" by César - Art Focus on the Guarding Sculpture of this Bourgeois district of Paris

in #hive-194913last year

There are artworks that you only get to see once in your life, others that you come across frequently and still others that you see several times a day, in different lights and for different periods of time.

This sculpture by César, a member of the Nouveaux Réalistes movement founded in 1960 by the painter Yves Klein, famous for his blue monochromes, falls squarely into the third category mentioned in the first paragraph.

In fact, for several days in a row, I went to work in the Sèvres-Babylone district, not far from the church of St-Sulpice, the Luxembourg Gardens and Le Bon Marché, a luxury shopping centre that I may tell you about a little later...

As is often the case when I go to work, I only have the camera on my phone - a real camera would obviously be better, but you can't have everything !

This centaur is a rather imposing work in terms of its dimensions, standing at over 5 meters high, and is in fact a tribute to Picasso. The first time I saw it, there were these rays of sunlight diffusing from the back of this cloud, making it look like a crown.

Here's the back, on the same day, and all of a sudden the silhouette seems more static, more artificial and less alive, which is one of the effects caused by the assembly of various materials welded together.

It's another morning, even earlier and in a different light. As a bonus, a silhouette of the author of this article, all from the pedestrian crossing just in front of the sculpture.

Then comes another day, later in the day, with better light illuminating the face of the Centaur.

Here is a series of details to give you a better idea of the different materials that make up this sculpture.

And finally, the Centaur topped by a public works cone, probably installed there after a demonstration without the neighborhood, or the recent riots that shook Paris and other French cities.

That's all for this article on the Centaur, and don't hesitate to tell me in the comments what you think of it! Thank you for your visit, see you soon,

Hehe, you've seen right through me ! Art and history indeed always passionate me and this was lucky to have the occasion to see this sculpture many days and under different lights :)

Thank you very much dear @esther-emmanuel ! I'm doing good, thanks 😇
And you, how have you been doing lately ?

Oh I am doing good. Thank you. Have a wonderful day tomorrow ☺️

That's good 😊

Many thanks, this day is beginning well with some admins tasks at home haha :)

Take care dear @esther-emmanuel ✌️

It looks simply amazing, man. I'll probably have the opportunity to see what I'm seeing now once in my lifetime because I don't think I'm going to live my life in France, but I'm going to immortalize this perfect moment, just like you did.

Thank you @incublus :)

I hope you'll have the occasion to come here, but for sure, living in Paris could be a tuff operation, expensive, noisy but of course historic and beautiful of course !

Have a good day ✌️

When you mentioned church of St-Sulpice, I was reminded of Davinci Code, still a dream of mine to explore all the sites that was mentioned there. Awesome centaur and artwork, hope you're safe there? I mean I read all over the news about what's happening in France.

Oh, you're right ! I completely forgot that this church was part of the story :) I can make a tour there and mention you, but I'm sure you want and prefer to see it with your own eyes 😉

Yeah, it's fine, those first nights were intense in most of the suburbs and a bit in the center, but everything seems back to normal.. kind of !

Thank you dear @macchiata for asking, I hope you've been doing well lately 🤞

What an immense sculpture, it looks very imposing in your photos. I really liked the photographs, all of the same figure taken at different times of the day, which makes them look very different all the time.

Yeah, this one is quite big indeed and I'm happy you enjoyed as myself the different angles and times of the pictures :D

Thank you @jordy0827 !
