This Alien Moonflower is older than me

in #hive-194913last year

Can you guess the age of this Spathiphyllum that was given to me when I was born and which must have been one or two years old ? It's fair to say that this plant, which comes from South America and is also known as the 'moonflower', was my first plant and paved the way for my love of nature.

It's a plant I've always taken a great interest in, even though it's been in my family's flat for years now, so I'm no longer the one looking after it. What's strange and interesting is that when I've been less well, it seems that the plant has also been less well. It's funny to say this, but I've always imagined that we were somehow connected to each other.

After all, everything in this universe is, and from that point of view it seems completely logical...

Here's the whole plant. I have to say that year after year, it looks more and more luxuriant and I often think that I should take a cutting from it for my flat in Paris.

In this case, it's the leaves, which seem to be in great shape and which need regular dusting. Did you know that dust can block up to 20% of photosynthesis, and this is especially true for houseplants that don't get rain ?

But the part that has always intrigued me the most, I have to admit, are the flowers. They're particularly strange, with their unfolding corollas and their 'organs', which are sometimes loaded with pollen and are, let's face it... rather suggestive !

IMG_7578.JPG

I also love that each of the flowers is different, some are more green than white and the same goes for the organ with all its little spikes.

IMG_7560.JPG

One of the last things I like and enjoy taking photos of - unfortunately only with my phone - is the very slight, slightly milky translucence of the corolla and also the mark of the spikes when the corolla has just unfolded.

So, can you determine the approximate age of this plant ?

I hope you've enjoyed these images and thank you for taking the time to visit us ! Have a nice day and see you soon,

such a beautiful flower, I can't guess how old this plant is and the need for the same plant like this is also in my house which happens to be my mother's love for this plant

I have no experience in guessing the age of flowers and I don't know your age, but let's take a guess! 37? I hope that's right. I don't know how many years these flowers live, but I hope they live with you for many years. I agree that plants connect with people, just like pets do.

...just like pets do.

Definitely ! I'm in a way already connected to my future cat hehe 😅

You're not far from the truth, but still I'm a little younger, I don't have 30 yet, but next year :)

Thank you dear @incublus for playing a bit to this little guessing game and for visiting ! I wish you a lovely day ✌️

Oh, it's brought back a lot of memories. My grandmother adored these plants and I grew up looking at them in her garden (I am from Venezuela and here it is a fairly common plant as an ornament in gardens)... I think that after my grandmother passed away those plants withered... But there is still one in the my older sister's house, she took cuttings or small plants from the original plants at our grandmother's house. Nice post, nice text...

I'm glad it brought back good memories, because even when they've faded, plants connect us to things, just like Nature in general !

Thank you very much dear @jlinaresp for sharing this memory and visiting here 😊

Have a lovely day !

Thank you 😇

I have an attraction to words and names that contain the prefix or suffix "moon". I don't know why!
I didn't know the name of this plant. Your flower pair is impressive and I had no idea it could live so long (I don't know how long because it's actually about your age and I don't have much clue for a correct assessment). However, I'm thinking of an age around 30. I'm thinking that your maturity may be more advanced than your age, and then I'm inclined to think, I mean I'd like to think you're 33, so the plant is a venerable 35. This is a game and I hope I'm not in a big mistake.

I hope you are bearing up well to these temperatures that point to a "hot" future!

Haha, oh yeah ?

I'm too have a great attraction for the moon and things connected to it... it all started with passion for Thot, the Egyptian god of knowledge :)

You guessed quite well, I'm only one year younger that your lower estimation 😉 !

Yeah, strangely, I'm more tolerant now than before to those heats, before, that was really catastrophic !

How are doing also, is it super hot too where you live ?

I'm glad I was close with your age estimate and glad you are so young. You'll be able to see how our world is changing, and maybe some of the enigmas of today won't be... enigmas!

It's been 39 degrees Celsius every day for more than two weeks now, and the forecast says it will be the same for at least another week. It's hard to stand the sun but I have a few trees in the yard, there's a park very close by and in the shade it's bearable. Bucharest is in the south of Romania and the climate is changing from temperate continental to Mediterranean. We have to adapt...

Hey dear @bluemoon, I'm sorry to come back that late, those works were super intense and tiring... Maybe more because of the family energy that from the real work !

I'm still young indeed, and even I've some time, I really have the consciousness that I don't have to lost some... Better to work about solving enigmas as you said it perfectly !

Oh; yeah, this is quite hot around ! I hope that you'll have (or already had) some needed rains ! Here it was yesterday night :)

I hope you're doing good, take good care of you

Thank you! You too, take care of yourself, because you have a full life and a lot of work ahead of you... but what a good thing that it is so.
There is no problem with the delay in replying, I often really enjoy it when they are late, and on the other hand, I am always late too.

We are waiting for the rains too, they were promised for the weekend.

Thank you 😊 ! And again, I'm kind of late !

So, did it rained ? I hope so :)

We're in the countryside, this explaining the lack of presence ! I wish you a lovely weekend, take care too dear @bluemoon

It rained and was cold for a day, it was unexpected and unbelievable. But now it's back to "normal"!
Thank you. I hope the weather is nice for you!
