Today I was talking with a dear friend about the language.
Poorer is our alphabet, poorer will be our thoughts, and so our ideas and actions consequently.
In this historical time, there are a lot a new words, because of world is changing quickly, and we need new words to express new ideas. It is correct, the language is something alive, always in changing but... The words we are using are less than before. Also, we are not using the right words, and this is a big problem. Reality is very complex, and we are using language to make it less complex, and to give a chance to human beings to comunicate. But we should pay more attention about the right words to use (Nanni Moretti docet).
For example, the word 'infinity': how many meaning does it have? There is a mathematical infinity, an infinity in poetry, and so on. Every one use the same word to refer to a different meaning, so how could we communicate correctly? Sometimes we use 'infinity' to refer to 'indefinite' (was the poem 'The Infinite' by Giacomo Leopardi an Infinity or an Indefinite?) to talk about the abyss of the universe, the things we don't know but we can only imagine. Our mind can't explain something without limits, and also the physical world doesn't like the infinity: a black hole is not a point of zero dimension and infinite density, but something else we can't understand at now, so infinity could mean also 'what we don't know', and what happens in a black hole is like the things beyond the hedge in Giacomo Leopardi poem.
So, I think it is huge and beautiful this indeterminacy of the language, but... when we talk, we must be aware of all nuances hidden in some special words, specially in this time of 'single thought'.
Let's take care of the nuances, it is my warning and my wish for today, to create a better communication and to understand and accept the ideas of other people.
Let's learn from the natural world.
Maybe each one has an own infinity, we should accept it, and in the case we can't find the right word, let's use the silence, or the art.
