I remember the time when I started photography, many years ago. Even as a child, I was fascinated by the possibility of stealing the moment, immortalizing an image, and putting it on paper.
For a long time, I only dreamed of having a camera. There were few cameras and few people who could take pictures and photography was not that simple.
We couldn't do automatic photography, just pick something to shoot and press a button. You had to do all the work yourself, choose the exposure time and aperture, and then develop the film and do the enlarging and copying so that you had a picture in your hand at the end.
It is difficult, complicated, and very likely to lose everything due to a mistake in this long procedure, from putting a film in the camera to processing it in the laboratory.
Now, when each of us has a small but powerful camera attached to our cell phone, no one thinks about the difficulties of the past and most of us don't even know about them.
How simple it can be, choose something press the button, and see what your photo will look like.
Although almost everything can be photographed, sometimes it's hard to find a good subject for your photo. I was myself in this search and decided to photograph some flowers in my small yard.
The most handy subject...
Flowers
As we get older many people are attracted to gardening. I belong to this category and try to take care of a few plants, some of which also make flowers.
For a few years now the climate has been getting drier and plants suffer from lack of water, no matter how much I water my garden, and because of this, fewer plants manage to bloom.
All these flowers that you see above are smaller than they should be, it looks like a bonsai effect, when the plants get less food to stay as small as possible.
Trees
There are a few trees in the yard and they seem to be less affected by the drought. Surely, this is because of the deep roots that reach the water zones.
In this climatic situation, I tried to adapt and prepare myself for a warmer... future. A recent scientific study says that 60 years from now, in the area where I live (southern Romania) temperatures will be as they are now in Athens!
I've been trying to acclimatize some Mediterranean plants for a few years now and I think I've succeeded with a few. I've had the best results with Passionflower.
A post dedicated to these Mediterranean plants in my backyard it will come soon.
