Old Piers - Culross and Aberdour - Fife - Scotland

Hi Everyone

This is a collection of shots taken recently while out wandering around the Fife coast here in Scotland.

We have many historic fishing villages here ,while out exploring them I found a couple of beautiful old piers.

This first shot was taken in the hanging gardens of Culross while looking over the town hall towards the pier.

We have been having a very unseasonal heat wave here these past 2 weeks. On this day many people were bravely walking out to the end of the old pier.

I think its kind of unsafe to only have a barrier on one side of the walkway.I tried walking out to the end but freaked out half way and had to turn back.

In my head I could hear the theme music from the movie Jaws which didnt help my anxiety...

I decided just to get some shots from further back. One of these days I will brave it out to the end and get a few shots looking toward the town.

My dad was brave enough to walk all the way , he is the guy in the red jacket.

These little kids were also brave enough to make it all the way out. I have an 8 year old and 4 year old nephew , I don't think I would want them walking that far out. I would be afraid they would fall in.

This next shot was taken in Aberdour which is a little bit along the coast from Culross.

In the distance you can see Inchcolm island. The pier was once used as a ferry port for taking people back and forth to the Island.

I believe the last time the pier was used was in the late 1940s or early 1950s.

For at least half a century the sea has been slowly claiming bits of the pier. I wonder how long it will be before it is completely taken by the sea?
DSCF4563.JPG

Recently this piece of driftwood has been cemented into the rocks creating some wonderful compositions.
DSCF4564.JPG

I couldnt make out exactly what the inscription says.It is something along the lines of "Weather beaten wood a relic of the past (something illegible ) ring across the water"

It makes for some unique shots with the pier in the background.

In these shots we can see the silhouette's of the 13th century abbey on Inchcolm island.

To reach the island nowadays we have to cross the Forth road bridge into South Queensferry where a ferry regularly makes trips to Inchcolm. Im hoping to get out to the island and abbey soon now that the covid regulations are being lifted

A couple of shots looking over someone's garden towards the pier.

This house appears to have a jetty for launching a boat into the sea and a much less weather and sea beaten pier.

Im unsure if this old rusty set of wheels is placed here on purpose or has been washed to the shore by the tides.Either way it makes for a nice photograph.

It will be interesting to see if it is still there the next time I visit the area. It seems like a very unique thing to be washed ashore into ones backyard...

This pier reminds me of the scene in the movie Jaws where 2 old fellas try to catch the shark by tying a turkey to the end of the pier and throwing it into the ocean.

The shark tears down the whole pier and one guy barely makes it out of the water before become the sharks lunch... :).

That's all folks ,hopefully you enjoyed these shots of piers from a bygone era.
