Despite the convenience of high-powered smartphone cameras, family photos are not a super common thing for my family. Now that we are not all living in the same city anymore, I try to take advantage of any opportunity we have together to capture some photographs.
Tripods and a photo timer on my iPhone 14 Pro are what enable these spur-of-the-moment photo shoots. Gone are the days of having to ask a random person to sloppily take your photo or pay for an expensive photographer. Now we pretty much all have the ability to take professional photos on our own due to rapid advancements in technology.
The main reason that we traveled to Lancaster, PA to visit my brother is because he was graduating college last weekend. More on the graduation in tomorrow's post.
Prior to going to the graduation ceremony, we were all dressed up in nice outfits. That and the fact that my brother's front porch is the perfect photo setting enabled me to capture some of the best family photos we've ever taken in my opinion.
From where I used to work at a portrait studio, I have a routine of how many images to capture. I get solos of everyone, then do different pairings and poses, and finally a group photo. It's a fairly simple process, but it does require a certain level of finesse to get done in a timely manner. We were short on time and I had to get it done quickly so that we could find a decent seat at the graduation.
It's amazing to me how young my parents look. My brother and I appear similar yet totally different at the same time. Then my brother's fiancé Kristian always looks gorgeous too. All five of us combined make the people in images seem like the most picturesque family, on this side of the Mississippi.
I brought extra tripods and lights with me, but I didn't even need them. We were lucky that sunlight was beaming down on my brother's front porch at an ideal angle. It was just enough to light everyone perfectly, yet not so much that we were all blinded and squinting in the photos.
My old photography job of mine gave me a solid foundation on how to capture great photos. I may not be an expert on developing film or telling you how a camera functions, but I sure can point and shoot. If you've never tried using a tripod before, then I highly recommend that you give it a shot as it makes taking photos so much easier. All you have to do is line everything up perfectly and set a 10-second timer and step into the frame. This can be perfect for group photos or even just upgraded selfies.
I am very happy that we took the time to get these epic photos of all of us. I'm sure they will be on my mom's digital refrigerator screen soon, if not already. I hope you enjoyed getting a close look at my family. A lot of people choose not to share their personal life on Hive, which I guess I understand due to privacy concerns. For me, however, I can't imagine not sharing the best parts of my life with the world.
Come back tomorrow to see my brother accomplish his massive goal of being the first person in our family to graduate college.
