Well, monday was my 49th birthday and I wanted to treat myself to a short break away for the last year of my 40s, I decided on booking a travelodge in Northumberland for a couple of nights as I wanted to try and get some photography done.
Driving up to the hotel we had to pass Lindisfarne and so we decided to stop for a break, it was very bleak on the island, with strong winds and freezing cold while I was in Northumberland, I think the warmest day we had was 1 degree lol, kind of expected when born in the middle of winter.
To get to Holy Island (Lindisfarne), you have to drive over a causeway in which you can only do when the tide is out, always check the website for tide times before you go. I'd only ever visited in the summer, so this was something new, as we drove over, there was lots of debris all over the road, sand on one side as well as logs and water right up to the roads edge.
It seemed really surreal, as we got there we went for a coffee in the cafe, I was talking to the women who work there and they said due to the winds it's best to leave earlier than planned as the tide will come in much quicker, so I took there advice and left about half hour earlier than we was going to, which left us a good hour before it was unsafe to cross.
We didn't walk too far due to the freezing cold and strong winds, although it was great to be there, one of my happy places.
Looking over to Bamburgh castle and the sea was extremely rough, sadly I didn't have my big lens so had to crop in a bit on this shot, but I love how waves look, the wind was way too strong to take the drone up, and this was on both times I went on the island as I went on my way home as there was a couple of shots I wanted to get but couldn't, but hey ho it's just another excuse to go back lol.
