In Awe Under A Sea Of Stars....

Last night I went out hunting for the Aurora Borealis, as the night before I'd seen some awesome shots by @fastchrisuk of this same windmill with the aurora behind it.

Sadly the aurora never showed, but what impressed me more was the shear beauty of the sky, it's not so much a dark sky area, however the skies were epic last night. When I got out of the car and looked up, I was in awe by the the majestic night sky, the number of stars I could see with the naked eye seemed infinite, in some cases hard to work out the constellations as there were so many more stars I could see compared to my home location.

As I was looking at the sky, the clouds were sadly closing in, although I did try and make the most of the situation and used them in the shot, lit by the bright lights from one of the power stations that is near by.

Whenever I see old buildings and the stars, I always imagine a timelapse in my mind, from the the building was built with the ever changing scenery and technology, imagine the changes that have happened to the world since this windmill was erected.

Even though I didn't get the Aurora, the shot's that I came out with, I am more than happy with them, I just can't get over just how good the sky was. I've got some milky way photography in mind for this location now, when it's milky way core season again.

I got home about 11.10pm, but today I've learned that the aurora became visible just after midnight, although not as bright as the previous nights, I've seen pictures and they were very feint, so glad I made the decision to go to my warm comfy bed lol.

I really do hope you've enjoyed this blog and pictures of North Leverton Windmill.

Thanks for reading.

All the best :-)

Very nice shots.... The magic of Samyang 😝

Cool, despite the lack of completely clear skies, the wispy long exposure clouds work well @darrenflinders. I'll be back here too asap!!

INCREDIBLE. What a beauty. What the shutter speed ?

Thanks ever so much, 10 second shutter, iso 1600, can't remember what aperture was though as it was on my fully manual lens.

A very great result

Wow, unique shots, well done, I paint the stars, but I can only draw them, I haven't photographed them

Brill as always Daz

Thanks ever so much Brian

Gorgeous shots!!! I always think I want to try night sky photography but then I never have the patience. Or I'm cold, lol.

Lol its great when you get the shot, although it was a bit cool when I shot these, the ground was really wet too as we'd had a lot of rain.

Ahhh maybe that's why the sky was so amazing. Freshly washed!
