Storms Lead To Almost Getting Stranded & Epic Light!

Last night I headed over to Castleton in Derbyshire as we do every year around this time to see the village trimmed up as well as this year they had a Christmas tree festival in the village church so we thought we'd make a night of it and book a meal at The Castle pub, which is one of our favourites there.

The weather put a stop to that, we headed over and as we were driving towards the peak district, it got really dark and the heavens opened, in which they had been doing most of the day, but even though it was around 3 in the afternoon, it was like you were driving around in the middle of the night.

We got to Castleton and had a walk around, enjoying ourselves despite the weather, the Christmas tree festival was a good little fundraiser for charities, but the trees were rather small that had been put in the church by local businesses, I did like the photographic society one best. Although limited for space, it did have a christmassy feeling to it.
When we had finished we went outside and the wind was the strongest I've ever felt it, strong enough to struggle to walk in it, it was as if you were in a wind tunnel.
Then we got the news, a shop keeper told us that the road back to Hope had been flooded near the bridge, which wasn't good news as that was our way home, luckily I know the area and know a different route abeit being a bit longer, we cancelled our meal that we had been looking forward to and headed back.

I took some pictures with my phone as with the rain I didn't even get the camera out, the pictures are rubbish so I won't be posting, however, storms lead to epic skies......

I woke up around 6.30 - 7.00am, after listening to the wind and rain most of the night, I nipped to the bathroom and saw a warm red glow through the frosted windows, I'm thinking to myself, there's something epic happening here.

I ran into the bedroom and opened the windows, the above image is what it looked like but I said to my GF that I think there may be an epic sunrise, it wasn't too long before my prediction came true.

I was contemplating getting the drone out to take a few shots, but I thought by the time I've set it up the sunrise will have gone, so I decided to experiment in the bedroom (oooerr!! lol).

I hope you've enjoyed the shots in this blog, I've done very little processing on these, mainly cropping, I've not added any saturation to any of the shots (yes it was that good!).

Shot using a Sony A7iii with a Canon 24-105mm F/4.0 L lens and a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary lens, both Canon fits adapted using the Sigma MC-11.
