After taking some time off of everything, due to things that needed my attention in real life, today I made time to visit a new exhibition, that ends tomorrow. It is a special one for several reasons and I didn't want to miss it. The main reason was, because these paintings have been painted by high school kids. All you're going to see here and in my upcoming posts have been created by kids in three years of their high school life.
The reason I love these exhibitions so much is, because you can see a different type of art, from young talents, who's style is not so sophisticated yet. They are starting their career and you can also see their evolution as each student has three artworks exhibited, from three different years. They need to paint a painting at the end of each school year and those are exhibited at the gallery each summer.
The best thing about this is that they got a chance to exhibit their work in the gallery. It is a huge help and a very nice gesture on behalf of the gallery, because at this stage of their career, not many galleries would grant them space. The major ones would say, come back in 10 years, when you made a name for yourself. So having an exhibition each year it's a huge opportunity for them.
The reason I am telling you this is, to warn you, to not expect Picasso level talents here and judge each one accordingly. Look at them as young talents.
Having a look at the paintings from a couple of meters, my first impression was, they have been given a theme as I could spot a certain similarity between their style. This is not a bad thing, on the contrary. You'll see what I'm talking about in a minute.
Emese Adorján
The theme given that year must have been still life and I suppose they needed to depict the still life through a special lens, a prism if you like. It's true that you need a minute or two, to examine the painting and see the details, but you'll see what I mean. You have fruits, tea pots, tea cups, all through the prism. I like the colors selected by Emese Adorján.
Barbara Tóth
Another still life, different style. Seems like the work table of a painter, which is not surprising at all, nicely distorted by the prism. I'm certain you need a good dose of imagination and some experience with a prism that can create such images. Again, look at those lovely pastel colors. It's very pleasant to the eye.
Anna Vass
A this point, I'd say this game is getting more and more interesting. I wish my English would be good enough to explain to you, how these prism lenses work, but it's not. S I hope you can figure it out just by looking at the painting. This still life has been painted through a multi angle prism as the image is quite distorted, compared to the other paintings and that's the beauty of it. Again, please note the lovely pastel colors.
Noémi Kiss
Looking at this one, I was wondering, how disturbing is for you, that you have to look at the still life through these lenses, as that's how these young talents have depicted them. For me it's not disturbing at all, I can appreciate the effort that has been put into each painting. Trust me, it has not been easy to see these scenes like this, before creating the paintings. But they did it. This is where talent comes in.
Dorottya Mészáros
Look at this beauty. The objects change color and size too, through the lens. In any case, whoever has thought about the topic of this assignment, knew what they were doing. This must have been a real test for them, but they have passed in my eyes.
Timea Ambrus
This may put you to the test as you need to look careful to be able to identify the objects forming the still life. I can see a glass, an apple, a knife and that's all. I love how all the objects have a geometrical shape.
Boróka Graur
Do you know what's unbelievable? That they all got the same assignment but you can't find two similar style.
Now, tell me which one you like the most. I hope you have a favorite :) Have you ever seen such still life paintings?
