One of the things I miss when photographing is animal photography. It is the hardest of all, along with taking photos of kids. However, after a certain age kids can be managed as they understand more and more but animals are a different matter. You can tell a dog or a bird to stay still, but that doesn't mean they are going to listen to you and do what you ask them to do.
Moving subjects are not necessarily a bad thing as you can still shoot some photos, but most likely you will be deleting a good part of it. You're lucky to get maybe two good ones out of ten.
Last week I got lucky, really lucky I'd say as these two doves landed on my ledge. It's not the first time as they are coming and going and they are so fast you can rarely catch them on camera. Most of the time by the time I go to the window, they are gone, not to mention how sensitive they are to any noise.
This time the window was open and they did not see me lurking around taking photos.
I had like two minutes to take as many photos as I could, before they took off. What I do in these cases is push the button constantly and see later what I was able to capture.
Then another day I was able to capture this beauty. For me this is an interesting one, as usually doves are not this colorful around here. The most common are simple grey, brown and black, sometimes with a blue collar. For me this one is absolutely beautiful. I love it.
Some people really care about birds and the environment in general. Look at this cute bird house. It's not only cute, but helpful as well. We didn't have a very tough winter this year, but a little help from humans regarding feeding is always welcome.
Feeding birds in forbidden in the city, because officials think they are making a mess, yet many are doing that, especially the older generation. You see them throwing dried bread crumbs or wheat to them in parks.
I used to put out wheat on my kitchen ledge during winter as there were two doves coming on a regular bases years ago, but after some time another two discovered the place and started fighting with the old ones.
On my way to the post office there's this little cutie that is always outside, especially if the sun is shining. He is sunbathing most of the time, rarely barking at people passing by.
Even though he's locked inside the property, having only the front yard to move around, this is a happy dog. At least it seems like it. He's favorite way to pass time is looking at what's going on on the street.
Here's another guard, watching closely what's happening on the street while the owners are away. This one was far away, so I had to zoom in quite heavily.
Then he spotted me and started signaling me who's the boss and where is my place in this game, so I had to move on.
Then there was this little one, a very beautiful pup, that at his young age already knew what to do.
He was looking at me with these big, innocent puppy eyes and every time I wanted to take a photo, he turned his head away. I guess I should have bough a sausage to bribe him.
Then I got into an argument with one of the workers at the place, who wanted to kick this little cutie because it was in the way. I told the man to stop kicking the dog as he did nothing wrong. Some people can't distinguish between right and wrong and are just cruel. My heart is always aching when i see animal cruelty. I would have taken this cutie with me, but unfortunately there's not enough room for him at home. I truly hope he is not treated badly.
