Today I thought I'd do something unprecedented in my art blogging period. Today I'm going to show you paintings from two different exhibitions, which means two very different styles. On exhibition was a solo one, while the other was of a variety of artists. Most likely you'll recognize which is the solo exhibition, but that's not the main point. Anyway, let's get to it.
Alexandru Vlasin - Shepherd From Mărginime
Usually when someone mentions shepherds, you think of one dressed in traditional shepherd clothes, hat and usually standing among the sheep. Not this time though. The artist opted to depict the head of the shepherd only, in a very artistic pose as well. This is why it's good to not have any expectations :)
Alexandru Vlasin - Iuliu Gardus
This painting takes you back to the 20th century. The date of the painting is unknowns, and knowing the style of the artist, it could very well be from the 21th century as well. Not being familiar with who Iuliu Gardus is or was, I ran a search and turns out the gentleman was a writer but could not find out a lot about him. Must have meant a lot for the artist though.
Alexandru Vlasin - Wife Of The Painter
There were quite a few painting of the wife, this is just one of them. Would be nice to ask the lady what she thinks about those portraits and if the artist has asked her approval, before finishing them. I'd love to hear the answer :)
Note to myself: next time take the curtain out of the way! I didn't notice the curtain, or I did and was no way to move it. I can't remember as these photos were taken in September last year. But it looks awful.
Alexandru Vlasin - Lady Playing the Flute
I like the angle from which the artist chose to paint the lady. It's not the usual you would expect and that makes it more interesting.
Apart from the title, there was no additional information about the painting, but having seen all of the paintings at the exhibition, makes me believe, the model for this painting was lady Ioana, the wife of the painter. As far as I know she's not a musician, but could have been the model easily.
Alexandru Vlasin - Man In Black
This Man In Black is a bit different from what we are used to in the movie industry, but the portrait is a nice one.

Alexandru Vlasin - Harlequin In Red
For those of you who don't know who Harlequin is:
Harlequin is the best-known of the comic servant characters (Zanni) from the Italian commedia dell'arte, associated with the city of Bergamo. The role is traditionally believed to have been introduced by the Italian actor-manager Zan Ganassa in the late 16th century, was definitively popularized by the Italian actor Tristano Martinelli in Paris in 1584–1585, and became a stock character after Martinelli's death in 1630.
The Harlequin is characterized by his checkered costume. His role is that of a light-hearted, nimble, and astute servant, often acting to thwart the plans of his master, and pursuing his own love interest, Columbina, with wit and resourcefulness, often competing with the sterner and melancholic Pierrot. He later develops into a prototype of the romantic hero. Harlequin inherits his physical agility and his trickster qualities, as well as his name, from a mischievous "devil" character in medieval Passion Plays. source
Alexandru Vlasin - Procession From Râmeț
According to Wikipedia , Râmeț Monastery is one of the oldest monastic settlements in Transylvania, dates back to the 13th century. I've never visited the monastery, but I'm not going to miss it if I'm in the area. There was a huge fire in 2019, unfortunately, that affected the roof heavily, but it seems apart of he roof and a few objects, there was no other damage. It's always heartbreaking to read or see fire damaging these old, historical structures as even repaired, they will never be the same.
Alexandru Vlasin - Family Portrait
A lady dressed in blue, holding a mărțișor string, which is the custom in March, symbolizing spring. I'm not sure what's that oval thing behind the lady's head, might be a mirror (although it doesn't reflect the light), but I love how the artist chose to highlight the dress of the lady.
Now let's change style and continue with something very different.
This is from another exhibition, from a different artist. Her name is Erika Gergely. The first two paintings from left to right are called Floating and Between Waves. The third one is unknown to me at this point as I didn't take photos of the title and the text is basically to blurry, to be able to read it. It's a shame as of all three, the third one on the left is my favorite, even so I don't like purple. What attracts me so much to it is the group of small particles on the right side of the painting. It reminds me of mosaic, which I love a lot and planning to do a table top in the near future. I'd love to draw something similar one day.
Vasile Muresan - Brilliant Autumn
At first glance, what reminds me of this colorful painting is the carnival, but the composition has nothing to do with that, it's about autumn. Indeed, autumn can be really colorful and you can find all these shades during the period. The style is quite unique though.
Ilona Sajgó - Autumn Lights
What I love here is the two silhouettes at the bottom.
Rodica Olteanu - The Nightmare of the Planet
The meaning of this painting is quite shocking, but this is how life is going to look if ...
So you have a mix of paintings here today, very different in style. I hope you can find one you like.
