Last month I visited another photo exhibition which was hosted in a medieval bastion. Photos are usually testimony of the past as have been taken before the event, but compared to the bastion's age, photos can still be considered young.
When it comes to galleries, I take an unusual structure over a gallery any day. As you can see, this bastion has thick walls and deep window openings and the ceiling and the floor are made of beams.
The exhibition was held on the first floor and the way up resembled to the stairs to the attic.
As usual, I did not know what to expect, so I went there without any expectations and had a nice surprise as the photos were very good.
When I saw the first two photos, I knew I'm going to see some interesting moments of life and was not disappointed at all. Village life, to be more precise.
Most of the times these photos take you to a totally different world than yours. This photo can't be so old, yet feels like it has been taken in a different world. The wall of the house is nicely painted, but those who know village life know that is a pise structure. The violinist was once the only person who could create music as that was the only musical instrument they had. However, the photo is good.
Dancing With The Bears
Must have been taken at a festival.
Another violinist in front of another pise wall.
Another photo with another deep meaning. Those hands represent the work of a whole life. The eggs are the traditional, hand painted Easter eggs you see around Transylvania.
The Heart Of The Earth
I have seen this photo before, at another art gallery.
Memories From Pustiana
What you see on this photo is hospitality. These people are not wealthy, but still welcome you with open arms and serve you with a glass of wine or brandy.
Funeral Procession
Fads from Nagykászon
Tradition must go on, so they learn the ropes at a young age.
More musicians. I'm glad I was not living in those days, at that place as that life or that music would not be what I want :)
Resting Potter
I hope one day I'll have the occasion to take such photos. The photo I took is not so great as the photos were leaned against the wall and the light was not good either, but the original photo is a good one.
Wedding Preparations
Now compare this to the wedding preparations we have today all over the world. This is a totally different world and I must admit, I would not like it. As photographing subject, it's ok as it's interesting, but it's not my world.
Mr. Virág
I loved this one.
In Paradise
The title of the photo could be strange to you, if you don't know how to read the photo, so let me try to explain it.
Village people are mostly growing their food, as much as possible. So they have livestock and in December, before Christmas, they slaughter the pig, smoke the ribs, bacon and sausages to preserve it for the whole year. I'm not sure if what you see on the photo is smoking the meat as that is done differently, don't need a fire, just smoke and it is done with sawdust. If not, then the fire here represents the heating, which is necessary as winter can be tough.
If I were to say something about these photos, I'd say moments of life. I liked it a lot as there's always something to learn at each exhibition.
I was thinking if I would ever want to have my own exhibition, but right now the answer is nope. Somehow I don't have that desire.
