People are posting about Christmas and I come up with a pumpkin post, I know, but look at the bright side. The year is still not over and the festival was held on the 13th of October, so basically two months passed since then.
This is a festival held regularly now and has a double scope as I see. The main reason of the festival is to attract tourists and create a lovely atmosphere for 3 days, where everyone can have some fun, taste local delicacies and get familiar with the culture, but also to celebrate autumn with these lovely pumpkin creations. On the other hand, there are the school kids, who are carving and decorating these pumpkins each year.
Back in my day, there was no such thing, but I would have definitely loved it and I bet I wouldn't have been the only one. It is an excellent opportunity to give way to creativity, which, at school age is much needed.
For me, it was the second edition and was thinking of how many similar design I'm going to see, but was wrong.
The designs I saw exceeded my expectations, just like it did last year.
Creativity has no limits and these exhibitions are just proof of the saying. The designs you see here are mind blowing and show you that recurrence is not something you see often here.
These pumpkins were carved by 10 year old school kids. Therefore, what you should look for is not perfection, but creativity.
While admiring these lovely pumpkins, I was thinking what I would have done if given 10 pumpkins for example, to carve them and make sure to make them presentable for a festival like this one. The truth is, I would be in great trouble as my imagination and creativity seems limited, compared to what you see here.
Last year, about this time, I decided this year I'm going to organize a pumpkin carving and decorating challenge on Hive. I was planning to grow some bit pumpkins at my dad's. After detailing him the plan, he bought some seeds and I was looking forward to seeing the pumpkins grow.
Then as always happens, mother nature had different plans as none of the pumpkins developed to grow to what was expected. I was disappointed, but at the end of the day, it is what it is, we have to accept failure too.
So I was excited to see these wonderful designs, like the one you see on the photo. Look at those eyes, well oriented to look like he's looking at a specific point. Love it!
The truth is, you don't need much to do this. You can recycle pretty much everything you have at home and don't use. All you need is your imagination and a bit of creativity.
There were these small, ornamental pumpkins to sell. I love these and my dad always have a good few in the garden, but this year somehow pumpkins were not what you'd expect and we got nothing out of these.
Have you ever thought of decorating the pumpkins with the elements of the periodic table? They have and there you go. Look at how good it looks.
Even though mother nature crossed my plans this year, we were not left empty handed.
My dad's neighbor is always growing pumpkins for the livestock and he got some huge ones this year, so he gave my dad two big ones, weighing 50kg each. You can see one on the photo. It may not look so big, but it was big , trust me.
It would have been a shame to waste it at home, so we decided to donate it to a restaurant and you can see, both of them got a remarkable place in front of the door. There was an armchair there, for people to take photos and trust me, you had to wait in line to get a minute to take your photos.
All in all it's a lovely festival and we had a lot of fun. Stay tuned for the next episode as there will be more pumpkins and yummy food too.
