It really is winter here in the western part of Europe. We haven't had a lot of really cold winters in the past year. The last time we were able to skate on the ice must have been years ago. In my memory we used to be able to skate every year, sometimes even multiple times per winter.
I think this is really a sign of climate change.
But in the past days the temperature has been hovering around the freezing point. In the nights it goes below 0 degrees Celcius and during the day just a bit above.
I like the cold. That is, when it is combined with a sun like the day I went for my #wednesdaywalk.
The lovely thing about the winter is that the sun is low. This creates really nice long shadows.
When I walked in the park a few days ago the shawows of the trees were all stretched out over the lawn.
And the grass itself was frozen because of the frost at night. The grass makes such a nice crispy sound when you walk on it when it is frozen.
The grass wasn't the only thing that was frozen that day. The canal around the park was also covered with a thin layer of ice.
We have a couple of parks in the neighborhood. The next park I visited has quite a lot of trees. The forest floor is still covered with the brown leaves that have fallen down in autumn, but as you can see the plants already start peeking through. It'll be just a couple of weeks until the whole floor in the park is covered in green again. And a few weeks more to see these plants in bloom.
The barren trees and the low hanging sun create this nice and misty effect in the park. It's kind of mysterious with the lighting like this I think.
In the middle of the park there is this beautiful castle. It serves as a conference location and a hotel. The old stables on the right have been turned into a restaurant. I've been living here for many years, but I never actually been inside the castle.
There are 'open monument days' where you can visit certain monuments and also can see the inside. I must keep an eye on when these are since I'm really curious how it looks like from the inside (yes, I know I can look up pictures of it, but I rather see it with my own eyes).
When I get the chance I will create a blog about it 😀
Thanks for accompanying me on my #wednesdaywalk of this week. I hope you enjoyed it too!
