Bakers Inlet | Canada

Only 30 nautical miles (60 km) south of Prince Rupert, you’ll find Baker Inlet. This unnamed bay on Google Maps is a hidden treasure, accessible only by boat. A narrow entrance leads to a wide opening that not only offers stunning views but also excellent shrimping.

We had the most beautiful days you could ask for—four days of sunshine after the non-stop rain. What more could you want? It’s crazy to think you can come from a city like Auckland, fly 30 hours across the globe, and end up in a bay you’d only find if someone told you about it. This is Canada: rugged and remote, with most areas uninhabited and villages 100 nautical miles (200 km) apart. All these distances remind me of Australia.

It’s my first time experiencing snowfall in Canada, and it happened while I was fishing with my brother, which gave it a magical, Christmas-like feel.

It’s absolutely beautiful to see the trees covered in snow, like icing on a cake. With the sunny weather and below-freezing temperatures, the snow didn’t melt quickly, giving us days to enjoy the stunning panoramic views. The photos simply don’t do justice to how breathtaking it truly is.

The storm jib is up since we’re still busy fixing the regular jib. This is actually our first time sailing with it, and Somerset is handling it surprisingly well.
