Welcome to The 27th edition of the series - Scenes from a bike

This Edition facts:

Location: A ride up to Royal park, just north of the city city of Melbourne. to the far North West section, then along the Moonee Ponds creek home.

Date & Weather: Sunday the 28th of January 2024- It sunny but a little windy, mid summer in this part of the world

Equipment: My Fujifilm X-T5, mated with a 70-300mm Zoom, why this, well see the 'other stuff'

The Concept & Finances: The concept is simple, I've bought an electric bike, on this bike I explore my hometown, Melbourne Australia and take photos, Priority 1 - Finding new places in Melbourne, Priority 2 - taking better photos, Bonus - Earn back the cost of the bike by creating content and getting paid for it on HIVE. The bike cost $1,100 USD. So far I've earned $152.03 from the previous 26 paid out posts meaning I've paid for just under 14% of the bike and I have $948 to go. This is going to take some time, but this is all bonus money, the joy is in the taking of photos.

Other stuff: I had high hopes for this ride (the first in a long while by the way) I had a vision of going to the wetland section of Royal park, where I would find birds, and I would shot them with by big old 70-200mm zoom lens and it would be amazing.

It was a Failure, there were very few birds to be seen so we 8 shots, 6 of which feature no birds at all

Not a Bird 1 - A plant - Nice shot, I mean look at that Bokeh, but not a bird.

Shot 1 (1 of 1).jpg

A Bird 1 - okay so it's not a interesting bird, it's a pigeon, but it does prove that the concept was right, zoomed out to close to 300mm is 434mm in full frame language and then there is X-T5 Digital teleconverter which either 1.4X or 2X that and this is about 860mm Full frame. For those who don't get a digital teleconverter think 'digital zoom' - basically it's cropping your shot, it works with the X-T5 because it's a 40 megapixel sensor, so cropped it's still big.

Shot 2 (1 of 1).jpg

Not a Bird 2 - A tree it works best in Black and White

Shot 3BW (1 of 1).jpg

Not a Bird 3 - A grass, like wheat, I like the simplicity of this

Shot 4 (1 of 1).jpg

A Bird 2 - Okay it's a duck, still a bird, just on water so easier to find.

Shot 5 (1 of 1).jpg

Not a Bird and Not Royal Park 1 & 2 - Okay we have completely abandoned the concept of nature and the park now, back to the inner Urban decay - and one of my favourite derelict buildings. It's the Producers Co-operative Store 5

Shot 7 (1 of 1).jpg

A mean how good is this sawtooth roof? Shot from underneath a freeway

Shot 6 (1 of 1).jpg

Not a Bird and Not Royal Park 3- And if you turn the other way, and you remove the colour we see the housing commission flats

Shot 8 (1 of 1).jpg

So there we go - A complete failure that still produced some reasonable shots, and anyway it was nice to get out on a Sunday afternoon and see a bit of Melbourne Town
