Desert Road Trip

Where has been your favourite place to road trip? A few snaps from our desert road trip a couple of years ago. Four months with three kids, our youngest was just ten weeks old when we left. 14k kilometres, breakdowns, sandstorms, extreme isolation. Yes we are adventure sadists ;-) , but the desert is just so starkly beautiful.

First image is driving across Moon Plain in Outback South Australia. The second image is the desert region on the southern end of the Oodnadatta Track towards right next to the southern tip of Lake Ayre

Third and forth images are taken in the Painted Desert. One of the most surreal landscapes you will ever encounter and a location with limited social media exposure due to its non proximity from anywhere.

Yellowstone holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the first big road trips I really remember as a kid.

I do love a good road trip.

It's on my bucket list for sure. Still yet to do a big US road trip.

What can I say? Absolutely epic. However, that's the kind of trip that appears on Discovery channel about ppl who get lost \o\o\

Wow that last image is incredible. I would love to do WA soon, well all of Australia ideally haha

Mate there is lots out there but it takes a long time. I still need to go though all the photos from that trip ;-)

Starkly beautiful is right! I'd love to see that painted desert

Just imagine being in your car in the middle of the desert, thousands of kilometers away from the civilization, and the car breaks down. Painful. Or maybe not so much. You can either fix the car, or not. If not, then you have to call someone to save you. Hopefully you have enough food and drink until the help arrives, and hopefully you survive the climate of the desert.

This is a little scary/frightening to think about.

Painted desert is beautiful and unique. My favorite road trips were exploring 4x4 passes in Colorado. Sadly many have closed over the years. The ongoing battle of conserving wilderness versus access to wilderness.
