Northern Lights

Aimee was cutting her friends hair today in the salon, and after they finished they decided to come to the house and order sushi. Her friends partner arrived shortly after they got here and after some grub the four of us took a drive down the the sea as the sun was setting, because the Northern Lights were said to be visible tonight.

To the naked eye we could all see the pinky-red hue of the lights, but through the phone we could really make out the colours.

It was amazing, and even when looking at the whitish glow in the sky, it felt as though I was seeing something, but just couldn't register the colours.

There was a bit of light pollution from distant buildings, but the phone was able to pick the colours up nicely.

This photo is amazing, and with the clouds and the long exposure of the lens it combines to make it seem like a painting.

It was ice cold down by the sea, but it was worth the discomfort to be able to see this light show in person.

We were underprepared however, as a hot flask of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate would have been good.

Here's a bit of a wider shot of the same picture.

I really like this one as it has not only 3 colours, but even different shades of those same colours.

In video examples of these lights, they're kind of showcased as dancing quickly across the sky, shimmering, but it doesn't really look like that in person.

I really like this one, as the stars are visible above the lights themselves.

They were like a rainbow from our position. We could see them peering out from the mountains to the west, over the sea to the east.

I used to do a bit of photography doing some light painting, which I always liked and would love to try out again, but this really reminds me of some of those results.

Especially the little light green blur to the right of the photo.

Here's another photo over the sea.

I would have loved to get a reflection of some sort on the water. It's kind of there, but not really.

It was great seeing these lights tonight, without having to even leave the town. We were there for the strongest portion of the light show, because within only 45 minutes, the strength died down which wasn't bad in our minds because we were frozen to the core.

What an incredible spectacle it is to observe the Northern Lights and even more to capture them in photographs. Beautiful photos to remember the moment!

This is lovely -- night rainbows spread like generous watercolors across a starry sky ... lovely!

What a beautiful picture, bet it must've been even more mesmerizing there!I hope one day I can see the northern lights 😊

Nice!

It was amazing, and even when looking at the whitish glow in the sky, it felt as though I was seeing something, but just couldn't register the colours.

I noticed the same thing when I saw the northern lights on the outskirts of the city, but as I moved downtown, I could only "sense" that something was happening but couldn't see the aurora clearly.

These are great shots.
