Moody captures of the Salt flats of Tenefé - Salinas de Tenefé on Gran Canaria 🇪🇸 POBphotocontest: Squares

in #hive-1949133 years ago

Hi all 👋🏻

Today I want to share with you all a selection of photographs I took of the Salt flats of Tenefé - Salinas de Tenefé in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria 🇪🇸

This is also my entry into the POBphotocontest of this week: SQUARES
Hosted by @friendlymoose

I was #exploring this Spanish #island of Gran Canaria in October 2017.
It was a nice day, until the skies changed and got #moody… but you may know by now, I love moody photographs 😎 and it is extra special to see moody skies of Spain than the always bright blue and sunny photographs 😉 don’t you think?

All photos are taken with my (late) #Canon eos 550D with 18 - 135 mm lens.

The location of the salt flats you can find on Google maps here, see the yellow star ⭐️:

Zooming out see the yellow arrow:

Here you see the entire island 🏝

As we entered we saw this sign:

It states:
”The Salinas del Tenefé are one of the best examples of mud salt flats that are preserved on the island. To its high ethnographic and architectural interest is added its location in an environment of high natural and historical value, with the presence of an exceptional coastal salt flat and archeological remains, revealing a cultural landscape of remarkable importance.

These clay salt pans, so called for the use of mud for the manufacture of deposits for salt cultivation, were built in the 16th century and until the middle of the 20th century were linked to the salting industry of the fisheries of the Canarian-Saharan fishing bank. Currently they are only used for island consumption, giving different types of salt qualities with different destinations, emphasising the salt or of high culinary value. Its production cycle ranges from March to October.”

Let’s have a look around the salt production:

As we enter the area of the salt flats we see… SQUARES!

Nicely man made squares in literally every direction.

And they are truly big… I show you later on, were a person walks along them.

Looking closer by… you see the colours of the salt.

The salt is every shade of pink /salmon 🥰🌸

When we look back towards the inland, we see a big dark cloud forming.

Beautiful… do you see the airplane?

Let’s look even closer at the salt… details… 😁😎

As the sea 🌊 water disappears due to the sun… salt remains in the squares 🤓

A beautiful colour, and I tasted this salt. It is delicious. We took some home.

A very close up of the salt 😁

Looking around and wandering through different parts.

The moody sky still there.

Wandering a bit further, we see different parts of the area… more SQUARES!

A bit further we look back.

Every square and area has a different level of were the salt is at. Some are flooded, some are dried out and the salt can be collected, and everything in between.

More details…

At the end we reach the sea 🌊 and we see shore birds looking for food.

And a lock for getting water to the flats.

Looking further over the island and beaches…

Wandering back we see a worker checking some salt flats. See now you can see how big they truly are.

Do you see him?

Maybe now… 😉

Walking over a path back to were we came from.

We reach the salt flats again.

Last look inland to see what the weather is doing… beautiful view I think 😎

And that’s all for today, join me in my next posts for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs 😎👋🏻 Even some #artworks once in a while will come by 🎨

Oh wow

What a magical place

So they extract salt from the seas or water or something??

It was magical especially with the moody sky @stevenson7

Yes, they flood the pans with sea water… and that the sun starts shining in the summer and the water from the sea evaporate and the salt is what is left over and gets collected. It’s a very tasty flaky pink salt there. Great for cooking. To bad we have none left… we have to go back for it one day hahaha 🤣

Wow

A great deal of work goes into it

Nice photos 👍😊

Yep, it is some work to collect it all, and lots of patience 😁😉
Thank you so much 😊

That's so interesting! I've never seen a salt farm before, there's so many great pictures here.

!PIZZA

That’s is cool to hear, now you know how it works… with the sea water and sun and beautiful salt is left 😁😎

Have a great day today @killerwot 👋🏻☀️

I know it's salt. You keep mentioning it. But, but I see chocolate brownies and I'm craving for some right now lol!

Aaawwww chocolate 🍫 my poison… hahaha 😜 love everything chocolate 🍫
Don’t get me craving it too hehehe 🤭

Lol! Got distracted with coffee :D

Good to hear… @leeart that does help, sometimes 😉

Next spot in spain: this one. Wow, didn't know they have that.

I only visited Fuerteventura in my past. Have to write this location on my travel wishlist now.... Hehe... Thanks my dear friend for the nice impressions. 🙏🏼☀️💯🤗

You are so welcome @akida happy to show you things you didn’t know yet. Gran Canaria has a few salt flats. I can only think the other islands have too. 😉
Thanks for your visit, have a wonderful day today! Enjoy 👋🏻😁😘😘💃🏻💃🏻🥰🥰 Huggie huggsss 🤗🤗

🤗☀️🎶💯🎉

Have a great evening my arty friend 😉😎👋🏻🤗😘 how is the little kitten?
Hope he is getting used to your place 🤞🏻🤞🏻🌸🤩💃🏻

Thank you. You and indy too.
Riju is more than well exploring the apartment. Hahaha. Still careful and mostly he runs back to his kitten room but more and more he comes out. And he starts "talking" to me. So cute voice when he wants something. Hahaha. Have a lovely evening. Read you tomorrow 💯☀️🎶🌃

You are so welcome 😁 @akida we will 😉
Aawww how cute is that. I so can imagine him going in and out of his room… exploring more and more.
He is talking already… melting heart ❤️ stuff… great to hear.
Thank you so much, you too have a lovely evening.
😉👋🏻🤗🤗

Now i cannot think about working with a model in between the salt deposits, with a very dramatic shot and light. But in the other hand, salt is very bad for everyone and everyone haha.

Very cool place, and good loking shots.

That would be a great spot for a model shoot @scuppari 😉😎
Especially when the skies are dramatic. Imagine a big dress flying around… yep I can visualise it already hehehe 🤭 But those skies are not often in sunny Spain and its islands 😇
Salt isn’t good indeed… but does makes great photos.

Thank you so much 😊 have a wonderful day today 👋🏻☀️

oh, it looks like a surface from some another planet 😱

Once we were visiting some friends, inland of Alicante, and to reach their tiny village we had to drive by a really alien-looking landscape. Seems they not juts come for mushrooms hahah, but to stay and live here in our planet :D

It does, right? @mipiano 👽👽👽

Those salt flats are here in Andalusia too. Especially around Cádiz city… when we drove towards Jerez.
They are cool visiting, especially when the sky is moody hehehe 🤭
More alien like landscapes here… like the red river we visited in Sevilla. And now in Alicante too… it is spreading 🤓

See, they stayed… and put their environment around to live… more proof they exist 👽 and steal all our mushrooms 🍄 naughty aliens. Hahaha 😜

Naughty aliens... and tomorrow is Friday... what to do, what to do? hahaha

I know… I have no mushrooms anymore hahaha 🤣 none… lol
😉🤩👋🏻💃🏻😁 but after the summer… comes the autumn. One day we find some mushrooms 🍄 the aliens 👽 didn’t find 😉🤣🤣🤣🤣

And maybe for tomorrow? as tomorrow is a new Friday :)) 🍄

I know… not sure if I can magically make something appear hahaha lol
Oohhh mushrooms 🍄 “where are they”? 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄 (old English)

Wow!... Now that was an interesting visual tour of a very different place!.... Looking at each of the excellent photos reminded me of things as diverse as science fiction films and Cervantes' Don Quixote!.... It is a place with a very particular charm and you have been able to transmit with your lines and your photos that... Thanks for sharing @littlebee4 friend!

Wow that’s so cool to hear my friend @jlinaresp 😎😁 thank you very much. That makes me happy that it reminded you of that.
Happy to share, always. Thank you for visiting 😁

Happy Thursday ☀️💃🏻

The salt flats are so cool! I am so glad you took us here! I have been to several, including dry salt beds in the desert. They are intriguing. In the US, there are several, one of them being in Utah where they use the dry lake as a racetrack although in the spring it has a seasonal closure as there is standing water or moist salt.

I love the tiles they made there! What an interesting way to collect the salt. It reminds me of the Mexican Saltillo tiles! I want to go to the one in Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia! Over 4,000 square miles! Just about the same size as the state of Connecticut.

Anywho! This post was supercool, woman!

I like seeing them @dswigle. They are cool and can make some pretty pictures. Been to a few too. Even here on the mainland are several. But never large ones.
The one on Gran Canaria we took some home and bought it right there. So fresh and it was so delicious in cooking.

I saw rockets and fast car testing going over those salt flats in the US through documentaries Denise. How cool that area must be to see in real life one day. No resistance there and those machines gooooo soooo fast. Unbelievable.

O my… 4000 square miles 😳😳😳 wow… that must be amazing to see, even just a little part of it.
Hope you can visit it one day. Very cool! Didn’t know there were such large ones. Thanks for letting me know.

Thank you so much Denise, much appreciated 😎
Have a wonderful evening 😁👋🏻

I was in South America for a while when Covid broke out! I had to leave and go home as they were shutting the country down. I missed some very good opportunities, but, next time.

It is amazingly huge! There are actually 2 good ones that I want to go to in South America. Thanks for sharing your post!

The weekend is almost upon us!

COVID changed a lot of things in a very short time.
To bad you missed on that trip. There will always be a next time.

Great to hear. Which ones are the 2 you are referring to? In South America.
You are welcome, always Denise.

It is soooo close now. We can almost touch it 😉
Let’s celebrate Friday first and enjoy it. Hope you have some more you time and not to busy 👋🏻😁☀️
Looking forward to the #marketfriday posts 🤩

Nice capture! But the most important question is still unanswered ... Did you get rain? 🤣
Good luck!

Thank you so much @fiatgirl 😁👋🏻
Hahaha you noticed I didn’t talk about that later on.
Nope… we didn’t get wet, but this had a reason. We got in the car and went to the other side of the island… on the other side of the mountains. The weather was different there. So we stayed dry 😉😎☀️ Yay… hahaha 🤣 lucky us. If we would have stayed there… for sure we would have been wet by the rain 🌧

Thanks a lot. Have a great evening 😁☀️💃🏻

Thank you so much @castleberry 😁😎 much appreciated!
I try to include always some info in my posts. 🤓

Cheers 🥂 have a great Friday. Almost weekend 😉☀️👋🏻

This place is huge and well arranged. We have something similar here, smaller in scale. Used to visit in the past because there was a natural salt basin separated for people to soak in.

It was big @nelinoeva 😁 that’s great to hear. They are all over where the sea 🌊 is. I have found many in my travels. Somehow they fascinate me.
But never saw a salt basin next to it for people to soak in. That would be perfect for one’s skin.
Have a wonderful weekend 👋🏻☀️ Thanks for your visit!

ahh salt, salt is life to food ❤️

It is @caelum1infernum 😎👋🏻💃🏻
Happy midweek to you!

Likewise @littlebee4

Thank you so much @caelum1infernum 😊
