Portrait of some Black Swans 🦒 πŸ–€ photographed during my exhibition in the castle gardens.

Hi all πŸ‘‹πŸ»

Today I want to share with you all a selection of photographs I took of some Black Swans 🦒 πŸ–€
I encountered on one of my art exhibitions in the Netherlands πŸ‡³πŸ‡±
We were painting live outside in castle gardens in Arcen, during the weekend of a week long exhibition in the castle and I had a view right on a large pond. πŸ₯°πŸ˜Ž
And in between of painting, talking to exhibition visitors… I took a few photographs when the group of swans came closer by.

(I will post about this exhibition at a later date, so stay tuned πŸ˜‰)

All photos are taken with my (late) #Canon eos 550D with 18 - 135 mm lens in 21 September 2013.

I ordered the photographs with the time stamps.

More information about this majestic bird you find here: In the website of Wikipedia!

It States;
”The black swan (Cygnus atratus) is a large waterbird, a species of swan which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. Within Australia, the black swan is nomadic, with erratic migration patterns dependent upon climatic conditions. It is a large bird with mostly black plumage and a red bill. It is a monogamous breeder, with both partners sharing incubation and cygnet-rearing duties.

The black swan was introduced to various countries as an ornamental bird in the 1800s, but has managed to escape and form stable populations. Described scientifically by English naturalist John Latham in 1790, the black swan was formerly placed into a monotypic genus, Chenopis. Black swans can be found singly, or in loose companies numbering into the hundreds or even thousands. It is a popular bird in zoological gardens and bird collections, and escapees are sometimes seen outside their natural range.”

”The black swan is almost exclusively herbivorous, and while there is some regional and seasonal variation, the diet is generally dominated by aquatic and marshland plants.”

Let me show you my captures now.

This Swan was closely watching me, what I was doing…

Than it went into the pond to feed.

Even from there it still kept a close eye on me… thinking: ”What is that human being doing there? Is she painting me?” πŸ˜‰πŸ€“πŸŽ¨

I wasn’t… painting the black swans, but started on a painting of an otter 🦦

my little table

WHO DOESN’T WANT TO WORK IN SUCH AN AREA πŸ₯°πŸŽ¨πŸ€©

Some more photographs.

And friends joined the lonely black swan.

A little bit closer by.

After painting a bit more… the swans came on land again 🀩😎

Started cleaning themselves.

Still watching me πŸ€“πŸ˜‰

I got by a little bit closer… 😎 saw all the layers of the feathers. Details again… yep, I love details.

And some time later… they walked off… and I saw the curls of this black swan’s wing feathers πŸͺΆ beautiful 😍 isn’t it?

And with this last photograph of them walking away… I say; β€œthat’s all for today, join me in my next posts for more #adventures, #stories and #photographs” πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘‹πŸ» Even some #artworks once in a while will come by 🎨
Thank you so much for looking, and reading. And if you liked my post, an upvote or re-blog is always welcome πŸ™πŸ»

Hello my friend @jlufer πŸ‘‹πŸ»β˜€οΈ Good day to you too.
Thank you so much 😊 I loved observing them so up close all day. A perfect opportunity to capture them πŸ˜‰πŸ€“ they were rather curious. Luckily… nothing else πŸ˜‰
Have a wonderful day further πŸ‘‹πŸ»β˜€οΈ

I can imagine that painting in such a setting most be gorgeous! But now for me, I think I won't be able to paint one single line, instead capturing pictures of everything around me 🀣

Hahaha 🀣 I managed to do both… the live painting was only the weekend. And our other paintings were hanging in the castle the rest of the week. We could visit the grounds and castle ourselves anytime. So I did… and wandered around everywhere πŸ€“πŸ˜‰ and talked to more people about art. It was pretty cool.

I like how tough they get when they are nesting.

Yes… it’s amazing to see how protective they get. Thanks for sharing @sketch.and.jam πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I never really knew anything about the black swan.It is so facinating to learn that they are mainly herbivourous. I would have assumed that they are carnivourous: eating fishes and sea creatures. And their uniqueness of being a monotypic genus.

Honestly, the second photo scared me. I freaked out to see such long neck on a bird.

”What is that human being doing there? Is she painting me?”

And it could have been like, "I need to strike a pose so she gets a really good frame of me." Unfortunately for it, you were painting the otter. Thank goodness it is herbivorous. It may have as well gone after the otter afer you left.

You take such creative photos, @littlebee4. I never would have thought that swans had such beautiful feathers.

That’s great to hear @olujay πŸ€“ that you learned a bit about the black swans. They are just fascinating creatures. I loved my time being surrounded by them for a while. I could really observe them and see some unique mannerisms. 🀩πŸ₯°πŸ¦’

All swans have such long necks… they come high up as they are a
Rather large. But if you don’t threaten them… no problem, they were nice to me.

Hahahaha you made me laugh there πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ I still can paint them one day, as I have some great reference photos of them πŸ€“πŸŽ¨πŸ’ƒπŸ»
But luckily they don’t eat meat hahaha 🀣

Thank you so much 😊 the curls I love the most in the last photo 😎πŸ₯°
Have an amazing Sunday further!

What an inspiring place and amazing photos. Black swans look magnificent. I've never seen black ones. I see white ones often, but after these photos, the black ones delight me more. 😊

Thank you so much @jelenaa 😁😎
They surely are magnificent and so elegant. Loved seeing them there that day.
Glad I could introduce you to the black swans. They are even more beautiful than the white ones I think too.
Have a wonderful Monday πŸ‘‹πŸ»β˜€οΈπŸ’ƒπŸ»
