This week's Deranged contest revisits pets. Having a pet goes beyond carrying for an animal. According to a study from a Japanese university, simply petting an animal lowers the stress hormone cortisol , while the social interaction between people and their pets actually increases levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin. On top of that (in a personal note), pets show us the true meaning of loyalty.
About out cat: Mom got her at a foster care as a new-born little ball of fur. She was full of fleas, but soon we got rid of them. I must admit that I was not a cat person; far from that. I liked cats as any other animal, but less than dogs. However, as people say cats pick their owners. Because I was the one spending more time at home with our pets, she became my own shadow... whenever I go, there she follows. Other than the cat, counting the dogs at the ranch, we have three dogs and a cat.
