Just to let us know that winter with its storms will start on the 1st of June in South Africa.
So, the wet squirrels started to eat apple slices that were put out for the birds.
Normally the squirrels would only eat the avocado slices, and the acorns and peanuts that are laid out for them, but this is now the second time that I see a squirrel eating apple slices. Then I had another surprise as the little seed and insect eating birds are now eating avocado, as you will see below. So funny as the squirrels eat the food of the birds, and the birds in turn eat the food of the squirrels.
Btw. Did I tell you that we had a short rain spell this morning?
Come and see.
My plan was to get something like a plane, or a chopper on the moon, but nature denied me.
Grabbing an acorn, the wet little squirrel eyed the smorgasbord around him.
Yes, the rain arrived, but I could sense that it was only a cloud break as the mountain could be seen. During the big rains, that mountain below will totally disappear in angry black clouds.
And then the rain stopped, but the wind brought with it the cold of the Atlantic Ocean. We were thankful, as during a brief period of sunshine, the animals and birds could dry out. We also popped out to shop during the break, and within the hour we were back here at home.
Now let me show you the surprise that I mentioned. This little Cape White Eye appeared in the garden.
And guess what? The white eye ate some avocado pear. So, like I said in the opening paragraph, the white eyes should eat from the apple slices and the squirrels normally eat the avocados. On this day they swapped roles :)
The sun was trying to say hi to us, but there were too many huge clouds surrounding it.
The road will stay wet for the night, as right now while I am typing here, another downfall of light rain is in progress.
The truth is that I don't know why the birds and animals have changed their diets, but I think it is because of desperation to get their stomachs full before a cold and wet night. I was lying in a hospital bed long ago and I didn't have an appetite. A wizened old soul in the bed next to mine noticed and he reprimanded me after I asked a nurse to take the food away. He said something that I remember to this day. Young man, he said, If you want to get better then you have to eat all of your food.
That is Mother nature's lesson in this post, as the little residents of nature teach us how important it is to eat in order to ward off nature's cold elements.
Such is life.
I hope that you liked the story and the pictures.
