They are called Altocumulus clouds, and it was a lovely show.
So, I will show you how it started, and how it ended.
For those of you that would want a better explanation of the clouds, here is a complete list of cloud names.
The list of cloud types groups all genera as high (cirro-, cirrus), middle (alto-), multi-level (nimbo-, cumulo-, cumulus), and low (strato-, stratus). These groupings are determined by the altitude level or levels in the troposphere at which each of the various cloud types is normally found. Small cumulus are commonly grouped with the low clouds because they do not show significant vertical extent. Of the multi-level genus-types, those with the greatest convective activity are often grouped separately as towering vertical. The genus types all have Latin names.
This below came over earlier in the afternoon, and I suspected that it would make a great sunset.
And this is what it looked like when the sunset started.
Then ever so slowly, the colors began to appear.
It started to get darker, and the colors intensified.
We could be in the Bahama's, or Mauritius with this view, but in fact the photos were taken by me from the confines of our small front garden at home.
Finally, the plane also rushed to get in on the show.
What a show, and I was glad to get it all on camera. As usual I took many photos of this sunset, and will show you some other photos sometime. For now, I think that this will be enough to show you the beauty of our sunsets. The next time that this happens, I will try to be down at the seaside, as I think that it would look great in a wider expansion above the ocean. I have posted some sunsets above the ocean in the past and they were well received.
We are a bit land locked at home at this time, as my wife has many degree students' essays to mark, but it will not last forever, and as soon as she is done, we will get footloose and fancy free again to go and explore. In the meantime, nature sends me shows like this to keep me occupied, and I hope that you will agree that the views are not too bad. :)
Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
