We heard the news that the world famous Cape Epic race will start at the Lourensford Wine Estate.
Hundreds of cars, and mobile home vans were parked below the mountain.
But sadly, we were denied entry, and I should have borrowed a bike and strapped it on our car's roof, as then we would have been allowed to enter the jamboree of a tent town with my camera. :))
So, I could only get the set-up for the start of the race from a distance.
But what is the Cape Epic race? It is a mountain bike race that attracts entries from across the world, and this year (2024), the start and day 1 will take place here at our Lourensford Wine Estate.
Here's some more news about the race.
The Absa Cape Epic, founded by Kevin Vermaak and also known as the Cape Epic, is an annual mountain bike stage race held in the Western Cape, South Africa. First staged in 2004, it has been accredited as hors catégorie (beyond categorization) by the Union Cycliste Internationale.
The eight day race consists of a prologue and seven stages, and typically covers more than 680 km (420 mi) with some 16,900 m (55,400 ft) of climbing. Professional mountain bikers from around the world encompassing up to 650 teams compete in teams of two. To qualify for a finish, teams have to stay together for the duration of the race. The race is also open to amateurs, who enter a lottery in order to gain a slot. The times taken to finish each stage are aggregated to determine the overall winning team in each category at the end of the race. The course changes every year, but the race has always taken place in the Western Cape.
So, as we couldn't get in, I rather took some pictures of the surrounds.
A look at the mountain behind a pear tree orchard.
And then some mountain covered cloudy shots.
The mountain shots were taken next to the road that leads out of the wine farm, and I for one simply adore the looks of the clouds blanketing the mountain tops. I have frequently posted this effect during the past of my 6 years here on hive, and I will continue to post the views in the future.
Now, if you Google, the Cape Epic 2024 race, you will see that it started on 17/3/2024, at the Lourensford Wine Estate, and there are also many videos of the race. So go and have a look, as I am sure that you will also find it stunning.
I hope you liked the story and the pictures.
