We stopped in Hallowell, Maine on our recent roadtrip. Frozen River a historical novel by Ariel Lawhon is set in the town. My wife is reading that book for her book club so we decided to pull of the highway and check it out.
Several old building are still around like this cotton mill. If you look closely you can see a historical marker about the mill.
The town has a nice "Museum in the Streets" with 19 different historical sites identified. We walked most of the town (small town lol) but didn't take in all the sites. We did take in some nice snacks from a small local bakery 🙂
Hallowell was known for granite quarries and a crain still stands as a monument to that history.
The town is located on the shores of the Kennebec River.
A recent additon of colorful Adirondack chairs are fun along the riverbank.
The chairs make a nice splash of color probably a rainbow of color. Too bad we were a few weeks too late for peak colors.
