Greetings friends, we're having beautiful sunny weather and I've been spending all my free time walking around the city and suburbs. Summer is short, we have to seize the moment! The summer sun has evaporated all coherent thoughts from my head, and writing posts has become difficult. But I'll try to concentrate so I can share some photos of the city's flowers with you.
I start my walk on Rosenstein Street, not far from the Baltic railway station. I came here to the fabric shop to buy sewing accessories: my panama is missing its ties and I am afraid of losing it in strong gusts of wind. A panama is a necessary accessory on sunny days like this.
The first thing I photograph is a newly renovated house. I stare at this house in amazement for a few minutes, and then open the panoramas on my phone to check how this place used to look and make sure I'm not confusing anything. I'd walked down this street many times and the gloomy dark building seemed scary, intimidating. Was it really enough to just paint this house a bright colour to change the mood of the place?
Further on I walk through a vacant lot with dandelions. There are hardly any yellow dandelions left, the yellow flowers have turned into fluffy balls. The wasteland was created on the site of old emergency buildings that were demolished. Part of the vacated area was built up with new apartment blocks (one of these houses houses houses the very sewing shop), but the place on the corner of Obvodny Channel somehow remained vacant. It's just a meadow with dandelions.
On the opposite bank of the canal stands an Art Nouveau building. Usually I run past it, the path through this vacant lot is the shortest way to the railway station, and commuter train schedules often make me move faster. But this time I don't need to rush anywhere. So I stop to take pictures of the building and the lights on the bridge.
Every time I spot a bed of flowers, I stop to take a few pictures. Not all flowers are known to me by name. I know dandelions, and daisies too, but what are those purple flowers that look like daisies? And the little yellow and orange balls in the flowerbed in the car park? The flowerbed in the car park is one of the city's new ideas. The flowerbed moves with the bench and can end up in any part of the city.
