An evening visit to Fort Phoenix

For these shots I am again digging into my photos from last year that I have not shared, and came across some shots from a visit to Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven, MA, it is a 28 Acre park officially called the Fort Phoenix State Reservation

Starting with a shot of one of the cannons looking over the harbor

A little bit about Fort Phoenix
Fort Phoenix is a former American Revolutionary War-era fort located at the entrance to the Fairhaven-New Bedford harbor, south of U.S. 6 in Fort Phoenix Park in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. The fort was originally built in 1775 without a name, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Just off the fort, in Buzzards Bay, was the first naval engagement of the American Revolution, the Battle off Fairhaven on 14 May 1775

On 5–6 September 1778, the fort was destroyed by the British when they raided the harbor. A force under Major Israel Fearing drove off the British, both at the fort and when they attempted an attack on the town the next day. The fort was then renamed Fort Fearing. In 1784 it was given the name "Fort Phoenix" after the mythical bird that rose from its own ashes.

Its a nice spot for a walk, with a long beach, a walk out on the Hurricane Barrier wall, and some green areas, which I touch on a bit of this shot but focusing on the fort and cannons mostly for this post, the cannons are on a raised area behind the trees in this next shot

@tattoodjay(1/4) gave you LUV. H-E tools | connect | <><

Given the current emission rate of LUV pushing 500/day, increases to required LUV levels will likely be forthcoming.

In 1784 it was given the name "Fort Phoenix" after the mythical bird that rose from its own ashes.

This is a much friendlier name than its previous name (Fort Fearing). By the way, I love the sunset photos. They give a peaceful feeling.

Have a nice day and have a nice weekend.
All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Ohh I do agree a far more positive name :)
