Cobblestone streets

Good Morning
When I was preparing photos for yesterdays post I did considered sharing some shots of the cobblestones streets here in NEw Bedford, but in the end I went with a tree these, but at the time I thought about how for the shots of the cobblestone streets I tend tio like editing thoise in Monochorome, it gives a timeless sort of feel, and then I thought why not edit a set of shots of the streets but keep them in color and hence this post.

NOw even though i call these cobblestone streets, strictly speaking they are made with Belgian blocks and thats what I should call them

Whats the difference you may ask, well Cobblestones and Belgian blocks are both types of granite stones used for landscaping and paving. Cobblestones are more irregular and rounded, while Belgian blocks are rectangular and more uniform

But bottomline is I still think of them as cobblestone streets and hence thats the title ;)

I guess the cars on the street take away from the timeless feel

I used to love exploring the cobblestone streets in NYC and was pleasantly surprised to find they had them here in New Bedford,. they are a bit of a pain to drive on the whole car shakes rattles and rolls, and walking onthem can be a challenge if your not paying attention especially after rain when they can be slippery

As you may notice these were taken in winter withthe bare trees

And this one must have been on a sunrise walk with the colors in the sky
BUt I think the cobblestome /Belgian brick roads and older building gice such a charm tot he historic district downtown

I think cobblestone, or belgian blocks, does add so much to the historic feel of old parts of towns. I come from an older town here i nthe midwest. It has some brick reminants on some streets in the older parts of town. BUt not the entire streets. I do wish they would restore them. It would be so cool.

I am glad they have maintained them it does add to the charm and the historic feel of the area

The cobblestone streets seem to plunge you into another time. And I didn't know there were several types of cobblestone streets, always cool to learn something.
Have a great day

I love old streets like those, just so timeless. It reminds me a lot of old San Juan in Puerto Rico. They used old ballast stones to pave the streets, which incidentally turned blue in color! What a pretty pictures you caught there! How the weather treating you? It's been raining for two days here, can't wait the storm to move on!

WOW the stones turned blue must have looked so cool

yesterday was rainy today seems much of the same,

Those roads are fun to drive down. Rattle rattle rattle lol

Your title reminded me of Sounds of Silence when Simon & Garfunkel singing:

In restless dreams, I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

Usually, wooden houses look more beautiful to me, but the whole street and its buildings make me feel like I’m walking through a street from the past in Europe.

Ohh yeah I have that song in my head now a cool song Thanks kindly your support is appreciated

Have a great day

Fun shots especially that last one. The cobblestones do add a majestic touch to the older buildings.
