Mono Monday St Johns Cemetery

Keeping with my habit of sharing mono Images each Monday today I will share some shots taken on a walk around St Johns Cemetery here in New Bedford on a foggy morning, which we have had a lot of recently, very foggy and overcast in the early morning, so I have headed out a bit later and been checking out some new spots and St Johns Cemetery I have driven past many times but this was the first time I went there and took a stroll and took photos.

Now these photos with the fog and my edits do come across as fairly dark and moody so I should say at this point, it is actually a beautifully maintained and laid out cemetery, and perhaps I will revisit it again on a nice day, or do some color edits for another post, but I do find cemeteries especially on a grey day do make for good mono shots, and I took a ton of photos here and in its sister cemetery on my visits there, so there may well be a few more Mono posts from visits to these cemeteries, but don't worry I will also find other images to edit in mono so all my Mono Monday posts wont be in cemeteries.

I am not sure how old this cemetery is, but its been around a long time, and has some interesting mausoleums and headstones

this view with the fresh greens did look nice in color but I wanted the focus to be more on the foggy feel and hence did this one in Mono

There is a little chapel in the cemetery, which you can see in the background of this next image, I will edit and share photos of it in a future post, it has a charm to it

This cemetery has a lot of Portuguesa buried here, whereas its sister cemetery has a lot of Irish, both are Catholic Church Cemeteries

and a last shot to finish off this post I know this post to some may be dark and moody I will try and follow up with a couple of colorful posts for the next days :)

Have a great day

I have never been to the cemetery. The thought of it scares me a whole lot. Maybe I am just letting my imaginations get the better part of me. I don't want to go there and get to run away being chased by a ghost

Dont worry you are not the only one who feels that way, I have friends who feel the same

Looking at these shots was like walking through a dream. Amazing ambiance! So peaceful and serene. I really like these 🤍

Wow, love these images with the mist in the background @tattoodjay 😁
Beautiful. My favourites are the second and third photograph.

So much to see… strangely interesting 😎

thanks so much, I had m=been meaning to visit a cemetery on a foggy day for ages, glad I got to them recently it adds a whole different feel tot he cemetery I believe

It so adds to the atmosphere… best days to wander around than when it’s foggy. It makes for stunning photographs. 😎

Ohh yes I totally agree :)

😎😉💃🏻

I especially like the moody cemetery shots. I think it really quiets the brain and allows me to go through these without the brilliance of color disrupting my thoughts. Although I do love the color. :)

Does it seem as if people were revered more back then than they are today? It seems that there were such grand gestures in the burial ceremony than there are today. Mausoleums were built, private crypts. Bigger doesn't mean more love, but, the gestures were far more eloquent to ensure a comfortable passage into the afterlife. As your pictures show, it is such a peaceful place. The beauty of some of their pieces is almost an art showroom. You have truly shown it off in such a beautiful way, to me anyway. I think the fog gives it a softer, gentler look.
The word cemetery is from the Greek word, κοιμητήριον, meaning sleeping place. I guess that is exactly how my parents explained it to us kids when we went to my Great Grandmothers funeral.

your first sentence summed up how I felt with the mono edits for these images, sometimes colors distract us from the real details of a photo

and ohh yes so true, back then people were revered more when they passed and were laid to rest, indeed bigger doesnt mean more love but back then I think that was a big part of it showing full respect for the memories of loved ones who were lost

I never knew the origin of the word Cemetery, I think if more people knew that and perhaps also watched less horror movies they may enjoy visiting cemeteries as we do

5 years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://peakd.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem

Love the mausoleum. Really nice with the tree and fog in the background. So many opportunities for the imagination to take this photo and run wild. Same with the chapel and the tree lined lane. This post could be a prompt for a writing contest 🙂

thats cool that some of these photos could be used as inspiration for a writing contest
