Piping plovers on Knowles Beach

Another post with photos of birds, I have lost track with how many I have shared recently, or have photos ready to share which is quite a change for me I think previous years I was doing well with birds if I got enough shots for one or two posts, so I think I am finally getting better at capturing shots of birds

For this post I am sharing shots of what I believe are Piping Plovers, taken on Knowles beach in Dartmouth MA

Now the population of Piping Plovers are struggling for a variety of reasons, storm surges damaging their nesting spots, humans walking through and disturbing the nest along with crows, skunks, racoons, and rats often hunt and eat the eggs, and their populations have grown because of human influences.
here in Massachusetts, there are groups trying to protect this species and on some beaches I have been to parts of the sand and grassy parts of the beach are fenced off to protect the nests

Well fenced off isnt the right word, perhaps I should say taped off, well easier than me trying to explain it here is how parts of the beach are marked so that us humans now not to go onto those areas and disturb the nests.

They are such cute little birds, I have been to this beach a couple of times initially before sunrise to catch the sunrise ( which reminds me I haven't actually edited any photos of the beach and sunrise, so I must get to those shots soon, and then after the sunrise I stroll along the part of the beach it is permitted to walk on and got some shots of these little beauties

I know on some of the beaches where I used to live in Ct they also had similar parts of beaches marked off to protect nesting birds and I think those were plovers or sandpipers if I remember correctly

I think its great groups make effort to protect and enable species of animals or birds that are struggling and help then to rebuild up to good numbers and get very frustrated when I see people ignore the tape and go walking in trying to find a nest

Cute little bird. I like how it blends so well into the sandy beach background. Happy Saturday.

They were so cute to see a bonus on a beach walk

Have a great day

Hey @pixresteemer, here is a little bit of BEER from @tattoodjay for you. Enjoy it!

Small plover running across the sand always exciting to watch, sadly nesting takes place on beaches making them extremely vulnerable.

This little one looks very similar to our small white-fronted plover that dashes around the dunes.

Excellent photography on morning outing, have a brilliant Saturday.

!LUV and greetings from Durban.

Was a nice surprise to find them on this beach they are such cute little birds

Very cute when finding food dodging the waves or when darting across the beach at high speed!

This is a small and funny bird. How good it is not to damage the bird habitat

Indeed so cute and great steps are being taken to protect them

how are you dear friend @tattoodjay good day
I don't think I have seen this type of bird here in the area where I live
It is a pity that they are in danger of extinction, luckily there is an organization working on it
What beautiful shots, I appreciate very much that you give us this opportunity to meet these beautiful birds
enjoy the weekend

Thanks they are such cute little birds and I am glad to see steps being taken to protect them

The bird is very beautiful, if there were in my area like that, many birds would take care of it. but I don't know if my area also has such beautiful birds.

So nice. 🦜❤️

They are indeed such a cute little birds. Such a shame their population is shrinking.
Good to hear groups are trying to protect them. Hope it does help 🤞🏻😊
Beautiful captures @tattoodjay 😁 have a lovely evening!

Lets hope it does help

I hope your weekend is going well

So far it’s going great. Yesterday we went to Gibraltar to drop off some work things at the office, we made it into a day out.
Came late back… had no time to post hahaha hope I can catch up now on Hive and write a post. 😉
It is an relaxing Sunday so far after a busy day yesterday.
Hope your weekend is going well. And you feel better again. 👋🏻☀️

Those are looking cute I'd say. I hope more can be done to help preserve them.

we can but hope that the efforts to protect them are working

I hope so too!
