Reptile Zoo Day

in #hive-1949133 years ago

We recently took a trip to a fantastic reptile zoo. A well maintained and education-first zoo where they really take education and conservation seriously. Not only educating you about the animals but also about the many ways that the habitats of the reptiles were in need of care and preservation. The whole experience was one that was a great way to get out early spring and enjoy a inside/outside day.

KOMODO DRAGON
Here there be dragons! This was quite the site to see. As big as a medium sized dog with the ability to move very quickly when hunting. We thought it was cool you could see the ear holes so defined.

Albino Gator
This gator had red eyes and I can say I've never see a gator quite like it. Quite the interesting anomaly.

This diamondback was coiled and quite large. Something that you would not want to run into during hiking but it really was beautiful behind glass.

I believe this was a Gaboon viper and by far my favorite pattern. The alternating "pill" style patches down the back were really unique.

Here was a copperhead and I'm not certain what the black one was both of these were attentive while we watched them. Very aware that we were there.

These were Giant Island Tortoises. In fact the two of these had been there for 55 years. They provided an experience where you could feed them yourself.

I love chameleons with their ability to change color/pattern but also because there eyes are some of the most bizarre. Being able to simultaneously look in two totally different directions to keep track of food and predators.

These two tomato frogs were just great the one sitting in a little hut.

There were a few more unexpected surprises. I thought maybe we were in real trouble.
