Good morning, everyone!
Here's an entry for the Qurator's Photo Quest - Frame in Frame hosted by @qurator.
This odd looking structure is situated at the top of a hill next to the city of Vila Nova de Cerveira, in the North of Portugal.
From this point you can get an amazing view of the surrounding area. You can view the whole city as well as the river which serves as a natural border between Portugal and Spain.
The houses you see on the other side of the river are the locality of Goián, Spain.
Even though the sea is just 16km away, with lots of cool beaches all around... people enjoy the fluvial beaches near this place, in both sides of the river. In the summer hot days, there's nothing better than getting into the water to cool off a bit. 😎
This place is called Miradouro do Espírito Santo (Holy Spirit's Viewpoint).
You're probably wondering why the heck there's a door to nowhere situated in such a place... 🤔
Well, the explanation is simple: there used to be a chapel here, called Holy Spirit's Chapel. This door is the only thing left from the ancient structure. The rest of the building has been reduced to scattered rocks in the ground with the passage of time.
Tourists love to take pictures here, almost all of them take the time to pose in the middle of the door! 😄
I hope you liked these photos! Until next time!
