How's it going Hive?
I would like to share some shots I took of a wild dingo at the famous Frasier Island, now known by it's traditional name K'gari.
Fraser Island is the worlds largest sand island and is located in Queensland, off the eastern coast of Australia. It is known for its beautiful beaches, sand dunes, unique vegetation, and the purest wild dingos in Australia - as dogs are not allowed on the island.
Alright let me set the scene. Imagine you're cruising down the sandy beaches of Fraser Island, your sunglasses on, the windows down with the sea breeze in your hair, just having the best time...
As you approach one of the island's most popular attractions - The shipwreck of the S.S. Maheno, which was stranded on the island during a cyclone in 1935.
Suddenly, I saw a dingo up ahead. They're wild animals, so they might be a little skittish at first. But if you're careful and keep your distance, you might be able to get a good look at them.
The dingos here are known for their sleek, golden fur and their distinctive howls. They're native to Australia, and they're related to wolves and coyotes. They're intelligent animals, and they've been known to hunt in packs to take down larger prey.
So make sure you keep children away from them at all times. These are not dogs you can go up and pat. As they are known to attack.
Plus there are huge fines if you get caught feeding them aswell.
So a little bit more about the S.S. Maheno.
This ship was a luxury ocean liner built in 1905 by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in Scotland. It was primarily used as a passenger ship for the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, sailing the route between New Zealand and Australia.
During World War I, the ship was requisitioned by the British government and converted into a hospital ship.
In 1935, the ship was sold for scrap metal and was being towed from Sydney to Japan when it was shipwrecked on the coast of Queensland, Australia. The cause of the shipwreck is believed to be wild weather broke this ship free from the towing boat, 50 miles off the coast.
Drifting over night in rough seas the Maheno finally found rest here on the shores of Fraser island.
Unable to be refloated and with no buyers in sight. This is where she lays since tired and broken.
Which makes for a must visit when exploring Fraser island!
I shot these pics on my Sony A7 III.
