Hello, hivers and cannabis enthusiasts!
I read a news story a couple of weeks ago that reported on research done by Oregon State University on the anti-viral effects of raw CBD. After doing a search on the internet, I wrote a Hive post about what I found about the subject. I highlighted 3 of the articles that I found about the subject in the post. You can read that post here.

After reading what I could find about the subject, I decided to try making a raw CBD tincture from a high CBD, low THC cannabis. According to the various articles, there was varying information about the anti-viral effects of THC, but most of the articles agreed that THC was not the primary anti-viral component.
Another thing that the studies found is that it was the raw CBD that had the anti-viral effect, not the decarboxylated form. Because of that information, I decided to make a tincture from cannabis buds. To do that, I used 153 proof neutral grain spirits, sometimes known as Everclear. I decided to use that because I already had it. If I would have had to go and buy some, I probably would have bought high proof vodka. I used a non-poisonous alcohol because it's part of the tincture, it's not boiled off or evaporated.
I started by buying some high CBD hemp buds. They were easier to get than cannabis with THC in it. The cardboard box is in the picture just to help my camera focus on the container that the hemp buds came in.
I used a half pint jelly jar to soak the buds in the alcohol.
I let this sit and soak for about a week or so, and then I drained the liquid out of the jelly jar and put it into an eye dropper bottle that I had saved from a chaga tincture that I take.
I have no idea how well this tincture will work, but I know there's a lot of terpines, and I assume CBD compounds in the tincture. I can also tell you that the tincture is one of the most vile tasting things that I've ever tried. It was like mixing everclear with bong water. 153 proof everclear is some vile tasting stuff!
I ended up adding some 100 proof Southern Comfort to the tincture to moderate the taste. The sugar content does help to moderate the taste somewhat.
The next batch that I make will probably be made using either the 100 proof Southern Comfort, or 100 proof vodka. I'll have to let the buds soak longer to pull the compounds out of the buds, but that's not a problem.
Has anyone else made cannabis tincture with alcohol and buds? If so, what were your results?
Thanks for reading this post, I hope you found it interesting!
