Music can be found throughout the African continent and is very important in the lives of African people. Honestly, it is very difficult to see anyone from Africa who doesn't like or enjoy music because music is very important to their culture. African people love to make music, sing, and dance almost everywhere they find themselves, whether at home, in the market, or at work. Music has always been used by African people in festivals, education, politics, work, entertainment, storytelling, ceremonies, and even in religious practices.
During any festival or ceremony in Africa, music can be used to entertain people's, as well as to bring people together of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the beauty of African culture. Although African music comes in different kinds of languages and tribes, but our styles of singing a song are usually the same, and they are usually accompanied with different kinds of musical instruments such as shekere, gan gan (wooden drum), flute, and so on. Some African people also love to incorporate sounds made with body parts like hands, mouths, or legs. In Africa, dance always goes hand in hand with music. Dancing and singing is a way in which we worship our ancestors, pass a message, tell a story, or entertain our people during any ceremony or festival.
Here in Africa, our music is incredibly rich and plays a lot of vital roles in our lives. Right from the day a child is born in Africa, music is commonly used by African parents to calm or entertain the baby. This music has really helped in shaping and building the life of a child in one way or another. As a result of the lullabies, many African children grow up loving music, enjoying making it, and using it in playing games. African children love music, and they always attend all the events that's happening in their family and community so that they can as well learn more about their culture, language, and religion.
In addition, Africa, to me, is a place where everybody, both the young and the old, believes in the beauty of music as a healing force. They have strong beliefs that music has the power to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and this is something that remains true even today. Music is used to heal our minds, bodies, and souls. It has the power to drive away our anger, discouragement, stress, and frustration, replacing them with happiness, joy, comfort, and encouragement. Music is also a form of medicine used by traditional healers in Africa to honor and call upon God and the ancestors to heal and to seek guidance. Music is used in all communities in Africa to heal and solve community problems.
In conclusion, music is important in Africa and can be used by everyone for healing, to tell a story, for entertainment, and for religious purposes.
