There are some songs that each time I listen to them, I am easily moved to sing along or play along with any of my musical instruments that is handy. In this week 71 of #afritunes, I wish to present to you one of such songs which is titled 'YOU'RE ALPHA AND OMEGA' with my Violin and also sing for you. This song is sung every time in African churches and Christian homes to proclaim the wonderful works of God and his sovereignty over all things. It is a very common song in Africa, particularly in Nigeria and Zimbabwe. Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabets respectively. This song emphasizes that God is the origin and summit of all things and as such deserves our praises. Furthermore, If God is the source and submit of all things, it therefore implies that for us to interact effectively with our world and all that dwells in it, it becomes very sacrosanct to make recourse to God who is the brain behind the existence of all things. This is because in our relationship with created things,if we rely on God, he hints us and directs us rightly whenever we feel confused or stuck in our dealings with the realities that befall us. On a second consideration, God deserves to be praised if not for anything else but for being the master planner of the world and all that dwells in it.
Nevertheless, people have questioned the source of evil. If God is all good and is considered to be the creator of all things, did he also create evil? Where did evil come from? This question about the origin of evil has been a matter of serious and continuous debate among philosophers and theologians. However, Saint Augustine simply avers that evil in the world emanates as a result of the privation of good. In other words, evil is the privation of Good. Evil is not a being that is created. It is not a being that can exist of its own, rather, it shows its ugly face when man fails to do good. Just the same way darkness surfaces in the absence of light. Summarily, if everyone decides and chooses to always do good, there will never be evil in the world.
