Hello everyone! I was looking for a place to share daily blog posts and my friend recommended this community to me. I'm a sailor and I work on ships, so there are probably some of you who have some maritime knowledge. If you have any questions you are curious about, you can easily ask me. 😉
Counting spare logbooks for 3 hours
Do you see all the drawers, cabinets behind me... yes they are all filled with log books 📚 😄
When you join the ships, you get many duties. Especially when you join a new ship, you have a lot of work to control.
It has been a week since I joined this ship and one of the things I check is to count the number of backups of the logbooks. This is a really important job because if you run out of logbooks in the middle of the ocean, you have to wait until you get to port to buy them, so in the meantime you are missing information. And the penalty for that is huge. Both for the ship and for the company. So it is an important job and there are dozens of spare logbooks. It took me 3 hours to count them ahahahahahah 😭
When we join the ship, it is essential to check the work done by our previous friend. Because we work away from our families and at the end of the contract, some people's desire to work ends. They don't do the work they are responsible for, thinking that they will go home after a month. And next guy can do that. This is not okay but always the same story... This was such a boring job, and I'm glad I counted the log books because there are missing things. I have to ask for them at the next port. Surely you have also encountered such missing things in your newly handed over jobs. 🙏
One of the most important things at sea is the items you need to count when you join the ship. you have to make sure that you have all of these items. Because you don't know when you're going to the next port and you don't want to be missing items in the middle of the ocean.
Some of your missing items have huge liabilities and if you don't keep those records you can get sued. Probably there are things like this in your business, records are really important.
I don't want to tire you with this tedious process, I just wanted to mention these ahahahha.
🤗
I am planning to share interesting and daily ship-work posts here, is it okay?
Thank you for your time. I will try to share interesting port activities, daily work routines and some photos from the oceans. I hope not to bother anyone and please let me know if this is the right community to do so.
There is also very good scenery of the clouds from the oceans qs well. Hopefully i will be able to share them in time.
See you soon 🙏
