Hello Hivers welcome to those whose work week starts today, Monday. I had one of those up and down weekends this week. I have already blogged much about my Friday and Saturday on my last blog. So I bring to you my Sunday.
Well it started off relaxing as the thought of going fishing crossed my mind. I had somethings to do in the morning so that thought drifted away. I couldn't go a bit later because it was already too darn hot.
My Sunday fate was sealed when I received a call from a co-worker that we need to go into work to handle some aircraft and process some cargo. I had about 3 hours before I had to be into work so really no time to plan anything. I just became a coach potato and watched some American Football before going into work.
Our first course of action was to offload a USAF C-17. Long story short we have been tracking and waiting for this one for a few days. The cargo included 12 pallets and one rolling piece, a towbar. You see most of the cargo onboard needs to be re-supplied and processed to go onto another C-17 that was arriving soon after this one.
Well first aircraft is gone and the second aircraft arrived just minutes later. We met it and gave them our plan to load them. The cargo we just offloaded needed to be prepared by the units it belonged to before we could process it for airlift.
We had 12 pallets to process and it took a good 4 hours to do so. The process includes weighing, inspecting, load planning and manifesting the cargo. I was involved with the weighing, inspecting and manifesting the cargo. I was busy helping with the finishing of the air manifest as others loaded the aircraft. I would have much rather pushed some pallets onto the aircraft. We were in a crunch so we did a lot processing simultaneously. Usually all documentation is brought out to aircraft when a load is started. Once cargo was loaded the air crew decided to spend the night for some crew rest.
We had a third aircraft that came in that wasn't related to the first two. We needed to take off 3 pallets than load 4 pallets than put back on the the 3 pallets we took off. The three pallets were thru load cargo that was getting off at the next downline station. Our cargo was getting off later at another downline station. Once again I was stuck in the office finalizing station folders (our files)for the two other missions.
That was my Sunday and early hours of Monday. When it was said and done I worked about 11 hours. I got to bed at about 2:30 a.m. and was up at about 6:15 to get ready for my normal shift of work at 7:30.
I get to work and already feel the fatigue. I checked my emails and than went to check out some vehicles. I checked out just 3 vehicles. Today it was a baggage conveyer, an aircraft loader, and simple 9 passenger van. Walking around and getting some fresh air gave me a second wind that lasted me up to lunch.
Later in the afternoon we processed a dozen deployers (passengers) to get on that C-17 mission. What you see above is where we in-check passengers and their bags. Beyond this area is where we do our version of TSA screening. I wasn't staying behind in the office this time. I drove out to the aircraft escorting a bus and one of our aircraft loaders. The loader had a baggage pallet on it that we loaded. A took a photo towards the front of the fuselage showing all the loaded pallets all the way back to the tail.
I really thought I would be dragging today because I really didn't get much sleep. The only time I really struggled was during lunch. I felt a little drugged when I was eating. I was close to falling a sleep, a weird feeling when your eating, haha. After I finished I felt new again.
Well I'm here to tell you I made it through the day. Here is my dinner, some simple nachos I threw together. Just nacho chips, ground hamburger, nacho cheese, lettuce, onions, salsa, and a little sour cream. I should have added some black olives and some refried beans. Oh well next time perhaps. It felt like a light dinner which is fine because I'm not super hungry. Now I take to the road to do some delivery driving. I will have a partner tonight to do the driving, my son. He needs more practice so this will be a good opportunity for him. I'm sure I'll be into bed sort of early tonight to catch up on some sleep.
Take care, be safe, and have a great week ahead. Glad this day is basically in the books! Just enough work today to keep me awake 😌 Thanks for stopping by it's much appreciated. Until next time!!
