Finally, with great pleasure I can say that this project is finished!
This was a long one and it was receded by another long one. Together the three projects for DBM this year had me on site for 171 days! That's 46% of the year!
No wonder it has been such a strain on the family. It is really hard to work so many days, mostly for 12 hour shifts and a lot of weekends and public holidays where I should/could be home.
But the job is well done.
Above is the Condenser plant for the Provision Freezer and Cold Room.
We also worked on:
- 2x Carrier Chillers
- 2x Chilled Water Pumps
- 3x Air Options Air Handling Units
- 2x Aeron Water cooled package units
- 1x Glass display fridge
- 1x Salad Bar
Everything was working and signed over and then disaster struck!
Explosion! Gas everywhere! Oil everywhere! Rapid decompression causing freezing on the compressor...
So... something was not right on here...
Look how BENT these pipes are. These are new pipes that we installed and they were squared up and neat.
Someone must have knocked the piping and this caused the Compressor's discharge valve seal to become weakened.
The moment the compressor started it blew everything out.
Well... we fixed it... we had to change the head gasket and plate gasket too.
While my technical team was busy with that, @loadreaper and I cleaned out the office and storage containers.
Squeaky clean and ready for the Container hire company to come pick them up.... start of the new year.
And here is a final picture of the ship. They are getting ready to leave now that all systems are ready and operational.
There is plenty I can complain about regarding these projects. The main issue is the lack of communication and when there is communication it is a lot of lies and misdirection.
On the next in-port project I will need to take closer control of the systems that support our work. Both electrical and water. I cannot simply rely on others to have their ducks in a row.
The other contractors communicate with one discipline's Engineering Officer and then that Engineer reports to my Engineering Officer... and then I get information that is nonsense!
Anyway... that is next years problem!
I am now officially on leave!
