I was a drug addict for not a small portion of my life, and my approach of breaking free was clear; full abstinence, and it worked amazing for me.
But, you know what was the most common question I got? It's: "Can't I just smoke/use once a week?" "What about once a month?"
My answer is always the same: You cannot!
We get used to things very quickly, we even get attached, and then change becomes very difficult, we resist it with all our power. Even when we're completely aware that something is destructive, we still can't let go of it, so we think of the alternatives.
You've probably asked yourself this question before but about something slightly different like: "Can't I just smoke one cigarette a day?" Or "Can't I just watch porn once a week?" "Can't I just gamble with 5% only of my money"
I fell in love with this quote from NA (Narcotics Anonymous) which says: "There is no right way to do the wrong thing" and it helps you avoid the mental games you play with yourself, because we know the truth, but we often love to deceive ourselves just for a short lived pleasure
If you're suffering from any kind of addiction (I believe all of us are) always remember that there is no good way of doing a wrong thing, every drink is a hard drink, every drug is a hard drug, and if you say just one more shot and I'll quit my question is: "If you can't resist this craving today, what makes you think you'll be able to do so tomorrow?"
Stay safe and sound y'all
