I spent most of yesterday working at an animal rescue place. Basically, they're special needs animals that are rescued and kept at a sanctuary.
I like to think of it as an orphanage for animals. Some of the animals are eventually adopted and sent to homes where they will live out the rest of their days.
It is pretty fascinating how much detail and attention goes into these animals. It kind of made me feel a bit sad for very poor people in my country because I can say for certain that those animals live a better life than some star ing kids I've seen in my life.
Anyway, the animals are kept in the shelter and people volunteer to help. It's also fascinating to note how many people participate in volunteer activities.
There's an endless horde of people trooping in and out of the shelter, looking to help take care of the animals. It was a largely positive and welcoming environment.
What I would say is that there were an uncomfortable amount of animal people that had far too many cat stories to share. I'm not going to lie, I'm not an animal person. I don't hate them and harbour tendencies to be a Vegetarian but I do not want to hear how cute your cats are when we meet.
I got much closer to animals than I'd usually let myself be. Overall, working in this animal shelter for a few hours made me have a higher appreciation of my job.
