I Cancel On You

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to let loose a little bit about an unexpected issue with an important appointment

I Cancel On You

Isn't it annoying when something gets cancelled?

The other day, we had an appointment set up with a specialist for our son to do some therapy that he needs to do. It's nothing crazy, but definitely something that we didn't really know about until we learned a few weeks ago that one of the compounding factors may be this other thing we looked into. Sure enough, we've got that going on as well, with some different flavors. None of it us really earth shattering, but the paradigm is definitely not supporting this type of information being uncovered and it's really a damn shame. I digress though..

What really annoyed us is that the provider is about 35 minutes of a drive from us which really isn't that bad, all things considered. We set down there with plans of doing a few errands, which we accomplished. When it came time to head to the office, we plopped in the GPS and headed in the direction because all the things we were doing were local to the office which was convenient. We pull up in the damn parking lot of the thing and my wife gets a phone call, 15-minutes before the appointment. They cancelled the appointment because the person was sick. What the fuck man?

I have no problem with people getting sick, shit happens. I've worked in the fields where those things happen and it throws a wrench into things. You move on and roll with it. In the paperwork for them as a provider, and us the patient however, it says that if we cancel an appointment less than 24 hours before the appointment time, we get charged a 50$ cancellation fee! We got called from them 15-minutes before the fucking appointment and they cancelled it. You bet your ass we are calling them come the next day to tell them they better give us a free appointment or half off an appointment.

Those types of things really annoy me, because they make it such a pain and inconvenience for us to cancel the appointment if something happens. What if we blew a tire on the way there? Would they charge us 50$, plus having to foot the cost of a new tire? I would certainly hope not, but some people are fucked like that.

With the appointment being cancelled, it really bothered us because we were looking forward to getting these therapies started, getting progress on the treatment and moving forward with getting things in the right direction. With what we've got going on, and there not really being a lot of extensive knowledge and experience by people we've spoken to, this is frustrating because some say it works, some say this other thing works, and others say this other thing over here works. There are thankfully lots of options.. but each of the options comes with a cost associated with it as well as a time commitment driving there, doing the appointments and all that jazz.

I certainly hope that they are going to offer us some sort of compensation for the last-minute cancel like that, because we are lucky we had things to do in the area otherwise we would have been pissed if we drove down there for nothing.

What about you, have you had an appointment that got cancelled last minute? Did they offer you anything for the inconvenience? Let me know in the comments!

Doctors are the worst at thinking their time is more important than yours.

Haha yeah that's for sure.

We're living in a time of cancel culture.

Of every flavor imaginable:D

🍦

indeed :>)

That river you were hanging out by the other day looked beautiful dude! Hopefully it’s not too far so you can go there often!

Fun fact: It's actually the same river that I have been swimming in, in the last 6 years or so. There's plenty of river beaches, all over the place. This one is 15 minutes walking distance away from my sister's land, where I am currently house sitting, before my upcoming trip to The Netherlands and Italy.

The river is even bordering my sister's land but the garden is a bit too wild to reach it atm. I will probably visit the river beach, again, later this afternoon.

Enjoy your weekend, buddy!

In Nigeria here, people cancel appointments however they want, especially if they think you're the one who has urgency of the the need, and they don't care if you'll be the one to pay, or if they'll make you inconvenient. They mostly do it, especially if they think you can't do anything to them.

Yeah that's a fucked up mindset to be honest. I’m glad that’s not pervasive in many of the countries in Europe and North America. It’s a huge cultural change and I think that’s why care models like we have in America, Canada, England and others are slow to adopt in places like Nigeria because you have such a huge social problem of that type of behavior, that it would take a long time to get past that.

Hopefully you don’t have to deal with that BS very often!

Naaa

That was downright shitty of them...

You should demand a 25$ fine...

Just based on the fact that you had shit to do in the area😂😂😂

Is it normal for them to put a fine in the cancellation of appointments?

If you cancel it before 24 hours yeah. If you cancel it 2-3 days before they don't have an issue. It’s pretty normal and I can understand it, it’s just bullshit when they do it on us.

I know how you feel, a "rules for thee, not for me" situation. There were times when medical professionals were threatening me if I didn't attend certain appointments during pregnancy, I told them, "I know my rights; I'm not obligated to do any tests etc."

But like you said, people get sick and we don't know the whole situation, but how hard would it have been to have given you guys more notice ahead of time? 🤦‍♀️ Anyway, hopefully better luck next time, and I hope you guys can start working on these bumps that have come up, or what have you... 👍

Yeah it's really annoying when they try to say you HAVE to do something. Ya? Fuck you I don't have to do shit. It's unfortunate because I thought we learned from mistakes in the past about "compulsory" things and how evil or unnecessary they are but sadly we have not yet.

It was rude for sure because it was an 11am appointment so you know they had a few hours to figure out what they felt like before canceling. I'm hoping we can get some done.

The interesting thing about it too though is after the appointment got canceled we ended up getting in touch with a brilliant doctor in a different state that wants to help us and may not even charge us because he said his passion is helping kids. We shall see if it's legitimate!

It depends. I mean, when were THEY notified that the person was sick? Because you can't expect someone to treat you when they are sick and sometimes people don't know they are sick until the morning. It's a pain and a disappointment but sometimes the situation is out of everyone's control.

However, yeah, if you cancel last minute somehow you're the one who has to pay a cancellation fee? That's not right either. I always say I have COVID so they don't charge me haha

It was an 11am appointment and they called us at 1045 lol. If it was a 7am appointment I could see since it is early but 11am, you've got at least 2-3 hours to realize you aren't feeling well lol

With us we just say we have a fever and that's usually good enough lol I don't want them to ask me for a test result if I say it's the Corona.

Right. That's how we did it in what now feels like 'the old days'. It almost seems like people want to brag about having C***** these days, instead of a mere flu/cold/fever. Also, aren't all these (C-2019) tests years overdue? ;<)

The tests are utterly useless and don't even purport what they are supposed to. Famously people tested mangos, corn and other shit and it came out positive. It’s a complete load of horse shit lol.

I think it’s just trying to get into the psychology to “test” for something, AKA, cost money, to diagnose something as simple as a cold or flu or other coronavirus. Absolutely retarded.

I know. I never trusted those tests but my own fam basically forced me into taking them once or twice, before visiting my father, who passed away in 2022. It didn't help that he had lung fibrosis, since 2018. Those tests always felt like 50-50 to me.

And yeah, I look at healing and disease in a totally different way (from most people) . It all starts in the mind and it's fair to say that our minds are being bombarded with more crap than ever before.✨

The location is very beautiful, like in the picture that you showed. The take is also pretty good from these pictures.

Indeed thanks!

You are welcome, friend

I recently had this happen with an appointment with one of my cancer doctors, though she wasn't sick, just 'something came up'. They literally called me as I was pulling in to the parking lot. I complained until they set up a telephone appointment.

That's bullshit dude, I would love to figure out what came up - did they break a toe or some shit? Makes no sense to cancel at the last minute. Funny thing too, we just pulled into the parking lot when they cancelled on us as well. Pricks lol

Ah I do have a mini episode to share!

I have been visiting this wellness spa for massage whenever my body has aches. There was once when I arrived punctually for my appointment but the receptionist claimed that my appointment wasn't in their system. I showed them the Whatsapp message which they replied to confirm. It turned out that they actually input the appointment in the system as the next day instead of that day itself. And unfortunately, my therapist wasn't free for the day so an ad-hoc session wasn't possible. And they just apologised.

Anyway, I didn't feel good about it because I specially took leave from work and spent time to travel there. So I emailed to feedback that they should have done better because customers do spend time travelling to the place. To my surprise, they emailed me back, and along with the apology and explanation, they actually offered me a complimentary session as compensation. At the moment, I felt that they really took such mistakes and service recovery very seriously, and needless to say, I have been their loyal customer since. A little thoughtful gesture can go a long way.

Yeah that's annoying you got there and their system was wrong but good they offered you something in return.

We paid them back by cancelling our appointment for today a few hours before we had it scheduled LOL if they complain - I will say “an eye for an eye” you cancelled on me so I did it to you. Now let’s call it even lol

I see!

That's really annoying this happened to you. In general, though, it has apparently gotten really bad with people canceling their appointments on really short notice or just not showing up. That's not okay either. And it has morphed into this reminder overload for everyone. For any appointment I am now getting a gazillion reminders by email, phone, text, you name it. All because some peeps can't keep track of their appointments or don't cancel in time - arrgh. Sorry, got a little off track here 😛.

Yeah I hear you on that. The funny and sad thing about it - it's more about losing out on money than it is about anything else. They just want you in the door because they get paid. If you don't come in, they don't get paid. There's sometimes a pretense of caring but that's rare lol

Of course, it's about money, time is money. But in the case of service providers, any kind of service providers, it also means that with proper cancellation that slotted time could have gone to somebody else. The person who cancelled late or was a no-show did not think about that, just about themself.

That is pretty annoying.

While we all get sick, we should know in the morning that we aren't going to be good for the day and call the office, so they can start notifying patients not to come before the patients start leaving their homes to come to appointments.

You may miss some of the early appointments because those patients may have left their homes already.

But yours was at 11:45, so there is little or no excuse for not notifying you.

It's simply unprofessional.

But you were very civil about it, so I applaud you .

You will never regret being extra gracious.
